With the armorial bookplate of Major-General Gerald James Cuthbert 1861-1931 a Scots Guardsman who fought in WWI; the other is noted maritime collector Frederick Ellis. Moses' 1781 –1870 achievement was capturing the quotidian aspects of England's maritime life -- no glory no cannons blazing no drama but for a verisimilitude in depicting the bustle of ship transportation.
