Two large colour lithograph advertising posters sized 38.25 x 51 in. and 28.75 x 38.5 in. respectively both bearing the Golden Trumpeter logo as rendered by noted artist Robert Reinhardt von Liski minor dustsoiling creasing faint dampstain to very lower right fore-edge of larger poster minor closed tears neatly repaired light age toning still both bright VG- copies now mounted and shrink wrapped on archival foam core. The Hart Schaffner & Marx logo for men’s fashion was first created by Edward Penfield in 1914 with the trumpeter bearing an upright lance but the next year had turned into a trumpet and would continue on HSM suits until the late 1980’s. Hart Schaffner & Marx was founded in 1887 by Harry and Max Hart Marcus Marx and Joseph Schaffner. By the early 20th century they owned dozens of small garment factories around Chicago and was one of the first tailoring/garment manufacturing firms to become unionized. They continued to grow through the 20th century and by the end of the 1960s had 38 factories and 250 retail stores around the country. The Company continues to operate under the Hartmarx label and is one of the leading men’s clothing wholesalers to this day. Von Liski 1908-1991 was a noted self-taught artist and commercial artist who worked for various studios and was a partner in a Chicago advertising agency. Founded in 1991 the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow came to prominence to during the ascendancy of Seattle's grunge scene. Widespread popularity was achieved with the inclusion of the act in the 1992 Lollapalooza festival. Features on television shows generated even greater popularity.<p>This poster is for one of the troupe's earliest shows held at the Ali Baba a restaurant on Capitol Hill that featured belly dancing; a couple years later the restaurant was transformed by Linda Derschang Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman into Linda's Tavern a hotspot for the music scene. Factwino was a protagonist created in 1980 who used facts and social justice to battle misinformation and ignorance from the likes of "the Moral Majority" "Armageddonman" and others. The Mime troupe put on this series of touring musical comedies featuring their hero from 1980-85. Covers lightly rubbed; sometimes a price handwritten in the margins in ink. An unusual hand-made catalogue -- the original photographs show the posters displayed with magnets or sometimes just held up by a person standing in behind it fingers boxes of office supplies or -- once -- a chin visible. This interesting book on election and other political posters of the mid 1920s in England and in Switzerland captures very effectively the social political ferment in those two democracies after the end of the First World War. Profusely illustrated the posters themselves tell the tale most effectively. Must have had an avid audience in Japan whose admiration for effective design in advertising and propaganda would have combined with an interest in democratic movements in Europe as their own "Taisho Democracy" was evolving. 19813433Seattle: DIY 1981. First Printing. Very Good. Original two-color showbill measures 8.5" x 13.75". Features five nights of shows in May 1981 cover charge $3 per night. Two scuffs each the size of a nickel. Slight edge-wear. Very Good. The first billing features the Lewd then located in San Francisco with the Refuzors as supporting act. That was the infamous "Splat Went the Cat" show when Mike Refuzor wielded a roadkill cat the band chanced upon while driving to the show. Refuzor threw the cat from stage creating a scene when audience members followed suit. The U-Men not listed opened the show. Other bands include Student Nurse the Deans X-15 the Pudz Frazz the Fags and others. Danceland USA was a short-lived all-ages venue above the York Diner a 24-hour greasy spoon at First and Pike. 1873214113Japan. Meiji 6 1873. Four very attractive colour folded woodblock school posters 60 x 78cm each with accompanying woodblock printed textbook 32 double-folded leaves 22.5 x 15cm. Edges of posters worn with some minimal loss at margins the accompanying textbook is worn at edges with some thumb marks at lower corners but sound and generally clean. Overall good. Offers a fascinating glimpse into the beginnings of modern Japanese education. A wonderful collection of four primary school colour posters and a teacher's textbook dating to the very beginning of modern school education in Japan. The four posters contain sets of beautifully coloured and delicately printed pictures illustrating key words which children would be taught to read together with the corresponding kanji characters. The posters are divided by theme - one showing parts of the body and clothes; one showing crockery and cooking utensils; one with animals plants and tools; and one household items including a clock chair and abacus. They are particularly interesting for their combination of traditional Japanese and western items. The accompanying woodblock print text book 師範学校小学教授法 Shihan gakkō shōgaku kyōjuhō was published in Meiji 6 1873 and show how to explain each item in the classroom. <br> <br>The posters have the chops of Chikuma Prefecture current Nagano Prefecture and 1000 limited copies at the top. . hardcover

An original lobby poster for this pre-code Western set against the backdrop of cattle rustling in 1877 Utah. George O'Brien stars as itinerant cowboy Jim Hall who joins Hank Hays' band of rustlers only to fall in love with rancher Cecil Herrick's daughter Helen played by Maureen O'Sullivan. The movie was filmed entirely in Arizona. Zane Grey based his original western on the activities of Butch Cassidy who after rustling cattle would hide them on Robbers' Roost. The H.C. Miner Litho Co. of New York was originally Founded in 186 by H.C. Miner and son Miner Jr. After a reorganization in 1908 the company operated under Hugo Zigfield until 1935.
