Rare second edition of a popular travel account of a summer holiday trip through the Netherlands and Cleve. Travelling from the Hague they visited Utrecht Leiden Zeist Soestdijk Amersfoort Voorthuizen Deventer Doesburg Middachten Rozendaal Arnhem Elterberg Emmerik Kleef Nijmegen Grave Hees Den Bosch Tilburg Dongen Breda Waalwijk Gorcum Vianen Schoonhoven and various country estates along the way such as 't Loo Huis Heemstede and Huis te Voorst. The travelling was done by public means of transport by barge by coach and on foot. Other than the various day trips the work also includes the stories the travellers told each other en route of which many are somewhat erotic in nature.The author remained anonymous by his own request. He was persuaded by his friend and travel companion to publish the account of their travels but requested that the people and names mentioned would be erased for it was initially only written for himself and good friends but now "for the whole world to see". The first edition was published in 1734 by J. Loveringh. The present second edition however is rarer with only one institutional copy recorded in the Dutch Short Title Catalogue STCN.The work has been recased with new end papers the binding has been professionally restored at the upper corner of the front board and the head of the spine. Simon Faxardo With the engraved Spanish royal coat of arms and a woodcut decorated initial both on the first leaf. 4 pp. An account of the Spanish Infanta Maria Annas 1606-46 journey to Vienna to marry Prince Ferdinand King of Hungary and Bohemia and future Holy Roman Emperor. This tract describes the final leg of the journey Maria Anna having originally set out from Madrid in 1629 from Naples across the Papal States to Ancona where she was received on board a Venetian squadron and sailed along the Adriatic coast to Trieste. At Trieste she was met by Archduke Leopold and then travelled overland to Vienna. On her arrival she celebrated her marriage to Ferdinand on 20 February 1631. Maria Anna was considered intelligent and capable and after Ferdinand became Holy Roman Emperor she regularly governed in his place when he was away on military campaigns. The union which further cemented the ties between the Austrian and Spanish Habsburgs was cause for celebration in the Iberian peninsula where this tract published in Seville in the same year as the marriage was evidently issued to spread the news of the happy event. Its nature as popular newsletter most likely explains its rarity.With contemporary manuscript foliation in the upper outer corners of the leaves "449" and "450". Harrison 1825-1893 was lawyer and real estate agent in Chicago became a prominent politician after the Chicago Fire in 1871 was elected mayor five times serving 1879-1887. and again in 1893 before being assassinated Oct. 28 1893 two days before the closing of the 1893 Columbian Exposition killed by Patrick Eugene Prendergast. Turner & Dunnett were active Liverpool commercial printers who produced travel guides maps and travel posters for the Cunard Line and Royal Mail Steamers for decades. This guidebook includes details on the many trips taken by rail boat or overland through the United Kingdom with an emphasis on London keyed to the large London map. Coryn 1865-1921 was a member of a large extended Cornish family who were active members and believers in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and later the Theosophical Society. Coryn worked as a foreign correspondent and travel writer in Liverpool and then London for the Canadian Railways before emigrating to the United States prior to the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. He would become an associate editor with The Argonaut and was a virulent opponent of Japanese and Chinese immigration into California. First edition thus of this exceedingly scarce Chicago manufacturer’s catalogue for luggage from The Hartmann Trunk Co. Initially founded in 1877 by German-American Joseph Hartmann and later organized in Nov. 1889 the firm introduced a number of innovations developed by 19th-Century German manufacturers including rounded corners. Early trade-mark names for railroads and ocean liners included Berth-high Rite-Hite Week End and the Hartmann Wardrobe Trunk. The “Woman’s†Hartmann steamer trunks included hanging rods compartments and even room for two hats spacious pull-out drawers and even flip compartments for shoes. Separate suit trunks dress trunks hat trunks and others with elaborate fold-out apparatus could be purchased. The company still operates as a subsidiary of Samsonite. No copies in Worldcat. Approximately 20 photographs those of Sri Lanka and Switzerland are superior-quality highly gelatinised prints. Half morocco and morocco-grain cloth ruled in gilt and blind all round and lettered 'Photographs' in gilt on the front cover; all edges gilt; covers lightly rubbed; later paper labels to the spine; leaves bowed and slightly tanned; a handful of photographs with some very slight loss at the edges; a few others lightly discoloured; overall in excellent condition.
