With many in-text figures throughout. David Livingstone's bestselling account of African exploration describing the first of his three major expeditions in which he followed the Zambezi discovering Victoria Falls in the process as well as the Shire and Ruyuma rivers ranging from Angola in the west to Mozambique in the east. The author also recounts his conversations and interactions with the chiefs Sebituane and Sekeletu and includes some ethnographic details of the African people he met during his travels. Livingstone's missionary travels "disappearance" and eventual death in Africa led to the founding of several major central African Christian missionary initiatives carried forward in the era of the European "Scramble for Africa" during which almost all of Africa fell under European rule for decades.
