Original publisher's bindings: vols. 1-9 in decorated cloth with Avante-Garde designs by KAREL TEIGE in black red and gray; vols. 10-13 in original printed boards minor shelf-wear small blemish on cover of vol. 4; headcap of vol. 9 chipped; vols. 11 and 13 in original dust-jackets trifle worn around edges both protected by mylar sleeves. Overall in excellent condition free from stamps or markings of any kind the bindings perfectly sound internally beautiful. This is probably the best set we will ever be able to offer. COMPLETE SET OF "CESKOSLOVENSKA FOTOGRAFIE" the most important annual Czech photo publication of the 1930s and 1940s which documents a period of enormous change not only in Avant-Garde Czech photography but in Czechoslovakia itself. Published before during and after WWII during the German occupation even well into the Soviet occupation our set is preserved in museum-quality condition internally immaculate. Â¶ It is a remarkable fact that this series was officially issued as the "annual" yearbooks of the Czech Amateur Photography Club and includes the works of highly influential Czech photographs such as Josef Sudek Jaromir Funke Villam Salka Mikulas Pek Jaroslav Seifert Josef Zeman Alois Zych Frantisek Drtikol Karl Mahler Jaroslav Krupka Mirko wagner Josef Mikulka Jindrich Styrsky Karel Plicka R. Sima K. Muller J. Tutsch and several of the leading Czech commercial studios. This annual publication was edited by Augustin Skarda Josef Zeman Josef Bures and others; the photographs were chosen by the editorial committee of the Monthly "Fotograficky Obzor." Each volume has 64 photographic plates with valuable technical details about negative size shutter speed lighting and the camera employed plus fascinating introductory texts usually translated into French English and German in the 1946 and 1949 issues the German text is replaced by a Russian translation. Our set is absolutely complete with all 13 volumes including the two volumes published during the German Occupation: vol. 10: "Zeme ceska domov muj" The Czech Country is My Home and vol. 11: "Pamatky Cech a Moravy" The Curiousites of Bohemia and Moravia are in original boards apparently following the wrappers issue. The "Occupation" volumes are by no means vehicles of German propoganda; in the words of Josef Bures "these were of course designed by the period in which they had been created; these yearbooks helped to strengthen the national consciousness during the war-time. Their pictorial contents either dealt with history or were absorbed in the beauties of the Czech and Moravian country. In the first yearbook the photographs expressed a conscious escape from the grim presence and the admiration of the national past in the second yearbook the love of the native country strengthened by suffering" from the Preface in vol. 12. 1st edition. Folio. Newspaper. Illustrated throughout. Includes many advertisements and numerous personal family announcements. Following the Kristallnacht pogroms of November 1938, Jewish life in Germany and Czechoslovakia was even further curtailed and all remaining Jewish newspapers were shut down by the government. In their place, the Nazi Party ordered the creation of a single, new Jewish newspaper, "Das Jüdische Nachrichtenblatt, " that would be directly under Gestapo control. It was published concurrently in Berlin, Vienna and Prague and was occupied to a large extent with announcing the ever-increasing number of anti-Semitic discriminations, orders and exclusions imposed by the Reich government. Over the course of its history, the editors of the Jüdische Nachrichtenblatt were Leo Kreindler (1938-42) and Willi Pless (1942-43) . The Berlin edition ran from the 23rd November, 1938 until the final issue of 4th June 1943. The Prague edition continued until 1945. In a ghoulish twist of Nazi irony, Gentiles were forbidden from reading the Jüdische Nachrichtenblatt yet the newspaper's targeted readership, the Jews, were literally hounded to their deaths by the very authorities who presided over the newspaper's ownership! See Reiner Burger, Von Goebbels Gnaden: "Jüdisches Nachrichtenblatt" 1938-1943 (2001) . A mixed collection of 102 issues from Berlin and Prague sold at auction in 2015 for 9225.00 USD. These issues were at one point bound, but the binding was at some point removed. The newsprint is brown and quite fragile, with edgwear and old dampstains, but there is generally little text loss, except to a few letters on the lower outer margins of the final 10 issues. Now housed in an acid-free sleeved portfolio, with each issue in a separate clear sleeve for easy protected viewing. Fair condition, but very rare, very important, and very powerful. (kh-5-47)

Freher présente dix sources de l'histoire de la Bohême, à commencer par la plus ancienne, la chronique de Cosme de Prague (environ 1045-1125) . La "Chronica Bohemorum" suit la compilation de Freher, sous la marque au Pégase de Claude de Marne, successeur d'André Wechel, l'imprimeur-libraire de Francfort, qui édite également en 1608 la "Bohaemia pia", recueil de vies de saints de Bohême par l'homme d'église pragois Georgius Bartholdus Pontanus, de Breitenberg. Le quatrième texte est l'édition en 1617 de la "Majestas Carolina", recueil juridique de CXXVII statuts, par lequel Charles IV (1346-1378) avait tenté en vain de renforcer le pouvoir royal central face à la noblesse de Bohême. Les deux derniers textes, datés de 1575, sont édités à Bâle par l'imprimeur protestant Pietro Perna. Il s'agit de "l'Historia Boiemica" de l'évêque d'Olomouc (Olmütz), Jan Dubravius (1486-1553) en 23 livres dont la première édition date de 1551 et le "De Bohemorum...origine et gestis" d'Aeneas Sylvius Piccolomini, proche de l'Empereur Frédéric III Habsbourg et futur pape Pie II (1458-1464). Bel et rare ensemble de textes qui témoignent du rayonnement politique, culturel et spirituel, au coeur de l'Europe, de la Bohême médiévale (Xe - XIVe siècle).
