A detailed expedition narrative explores the Hagavatn Gorge, a proglacial lake with an elevation of 435 m and an area of 5 km² located in Hagavatn, Iceland. Objectives included investigation of the glacier which fed into the lake; an estimate of flood probability and the making of a large scale map of the lake. Includes a general topography of Hagavatn and of its lake floor; a geological study - almost the whole area consists of Tertiary volcanics; explanation of the flood of 1925; discussion of the ice retreat; the ice channel; movements of the glacier; summary of concluding remarks and an appendix referring to the construction of various cairns. A thorough report that includes a number of pertinent photographs.
