Mesher, a new exhibition space initiated by the Vehbi Koc Foundation, opens with its inaugural exhibition "Beyond the Vessel: Myths, Legends, and Fables in Contemporary Ceramics around Europe." The exhibition demonstrates how ancient myths have echoed down through generations, and now form an exciting new wave of contemporary art inspired by the human characteristics and archetypes they represent. It focuses on how clay, often used simply to manufacture vessels and other utilitarian objects, holds the potential of being one of the most refined, yet powerful materials in the hands of artists with exceptional skill and vision, expressing human emotion in the greatest degree of subtlety. In conjunction with the opening, Mesher publishes the exhibition catalogue including articles written by Catherine Milner, the exhibition s co-curator from Messums Wiltshire, Paul Greenhalgh, Director of Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia, and Glen R. Brown, Professor of Art History at Kansas State University. Designed by Ayse Bozkurt, the publication features photographs by Sylvain Deleu and Hadiye Cangökce.

New English Paperback. Pbo. Oblong 4to. (25 x 30 cm). In Armenian and Turkish. 168 p., color photos. Gayan. In his work "Gayan", Erhan Arik, a member of the NarPhotos Photo Collective, focuses on how past and present overlap, and the memory of the Armenians regarding 1915 as he follows the traces of Armenian communities in Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Iran and Jordan - the stops in the Middle East of the Armenian Genocide - and also in Turkey and Armenia. "Gayan" features photographs Arik took from 2014 to 2016 in Armenian neighbourhoods and villages in Tehran, Isfahan, Zakho, Dohuk, Beirut, Jubail, Antelias, Aindjar, Amman, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Bethany, Yerevan, Ashtarak, Antakya and Istanbul. The book¿s title, Gayan, is the name given to camps in which Armenians who survived 1915 gathered, held onto life at first in tents, and later often in huts with tin roofs. These camps eventually turned into poor neighbourhoods, and in this respect, a Gayan expresses, in the memory of Armenians, both 1915 and the great losses suffered, and also the will and effort to survive.

The second, entitled 'Lehaghe' is a critical piece written in response to another Ottoman boundary commissioner Khorshid Pasha's Seyhât-nâme-i Hudûd. The third, a short pamphlet entitled 'Taz'eil', is yet another refutation of the claims of Derwish Pasha's treatise on 'The Iranian Border Delimination' (Tahdid-e Hudûd-e Iraniyye) which he published in 1269/1853 in Istanbul. These writings have been compiled in Sha'aban 1292 / September 1875. The author criticizes and refutes Derwish and Khorshid Pasha's claims to contested territories in different ways...".
