This catalog presents the architectural plans of all the official entries in the Mariinsky Theater Second Stage competition. The idea to enlarge the old Mariinsky Theater arose during the 1990's and with Valery Gergiev, as Art and General Director, it became a reality in 2003. The architects who entered the competition were: Andrei Bokov Moscow Reserach and Design Institute, Mario Botta, Yury Zemstov and Mikhail Kondian St. Petersburg, Russia, Sergei Kisselev Moscow, Eric Owen Moss, Dominique Perrault, Mark Reihnberg and Andrei Sharov Architectural Studio St. Petersburg, Arata Isozaki, Alexander Skokan Moscow, Hans Hollein, and Erick van Egeraat Associated Architects Rotterdam. Each architect has about 14 pages of illustrations and a statement of what his design will accomplish. Historical essays about the Mariinsky Theater. 9" high X 12" wide, 229 pages. INSCRIBED BY ZYKINA in Russian to her photo on page 3 there is another incription on the back of the front cover from I believe Elmira Kosterina one of the dancers and two other signature to the 1st page also in Russain which possibly belong to the baritone and to the other dancer. No other markings Very Good. Card cover side-stapled 24pp B&W photos of Zykina one of the ensemble one of the dancers one of wooden spoons. There is a history of the Balalaika and program notes in English and in French. Advetsing for CP Air Air Canada Aeroflot and some others. Zykina who died in 2009 was born in Moscow and joined the Pyatnitsky Choir in 1947. Beginning in 1960 she performed solo. She befriended Ekaterina Furtseva the powerful Minister of Culture of the Soviet Union and was reputed to be a favourite singer of Leonid Brezhnev. It is known she was a particular favourite of both Kim Il-sung and his son Kim Jong-il performing in Pyongyang six times at the invitation of the Kims. It was also reported that Kim Jong-il was so fond of Zykina that he invited her to Pyongyang in 2008 in hopes that her performance would help him recover from illness. 1.0 JM ITF docket 30.
