Griffiths notes a single copy at the British Library consisting of 146 pages which had been destroyed. Griffiths 1867/22. This copy is complete with the readings occasional services and catechism that were apparently unknown to Griffiths. Bound with: The Psalms of David Printed from the Book of Common Prayer. London: Printed by George E. Eyre and William Spottiswoode n.d. c. 1867. Psalms with separate title page and register. Unpaginated. Collates as: A-F in 16s G 4 leaves. Psalms printed within rules with headpiece. A few pages with scattered light foxing. Otherwise the pages are bight and clean and free from marking soiling or staining. All page edges brightly gilt. Bound in contemporary full black pebble grained morocco with triple blind rules to covers. Front cover with gilt title. Spine with five compartments separated by false raised bands. Spine ends chipped and extremities lightly worn. Front cover professionally reattached with reversible Japanese tissue. An clean and attractive copy of this extremely rare proof copy of the Evangelical proposal for revision of the English BCP. During the last half of the 19th Century there was resurgence of Anglo-Catholic practice in the Church of England. Some clergy incorporated liturgical forms from the medieval Sarum rite or contemporary Roman Catholic rites and several Anglo-Catholic devotionals were published for use by Anglo-Catholic clergy. In response several Evangelicals proposed reforms to the Book of Common Prayer. A Royal Commission on Ritual was appointed in 1867 which produced four reports over the following three years.
