Le ralliement à la politique meurtrière du nazisme de la part de plusieurs penseurs incontournables comme Martin Heidegger ou Carl Schmitt reste aujourd'hui à penser. Les discours et les interrogations à l'égard de ce fait indéniable et "scandaleux" ne cessent pas de proliférer : pour cette raison, il faut à tout prix soustraire le traitement de ce sujet au journalisme policier et à la censure moralisatrice, qui ne s'attaquent aux égarements de la pensée radicale que pour jeter le marque du scandale sur la pensée elle-même. Les enjeux réels soulevés par ce sujet sont multiples : d'abord, la signification et la valeur de la radicalité dans la exercice de la pensée ; deuxièmement, l'"essence" de l'Etat National-socialiste et de sa politique exterminatrice ; enfin, les liens de notre présent avec l'âge des exterminations de masse. Tout cela peut être traité à partir de l'étude des tentations létales qui unirent plusieurs représentants de la pensée et du savoir au destin du cauchemar bio-politique national-socialiste. Il ne s'agit que de traiter ces enjeux au-delà des scandales préfabriqués, en essayant de comprendre si la radicalité intellectuelle recèle-t-elle une complicité structurelle avec l'horreur et les catastrophes, et quelle place faut-il attribuer à la rationalité économique et scientifique dans les pratiques génocidaires du nazisme. Par là, on pourra (du moins, espérons-le) jeter un peu de lumière sur le jeu entre radicalité et aveuglement qui est inhérent à toute pensée guidée par la "passion du réel" - ce qui aidera peut-être à reconnaître les dangers qui habitent notre présent, non pas à cause d'un excès de radicalité, mais plutôt à cause de l'emprise étouffante d'une passion meurtrière pour la normalisation.
