David Levi Strauss born March 10 1953 in Junction City Kansas is an internationally known poet essayist art and cultural critic and educator from the United States.He is the author of a book of poetry four books of essays and numerous monographs and catalogues on artists. Since 2007 he has been Chair of the graduate program in Art Writing formerly Art Criticism & Writing at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.1 He also taught at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College from 2001-2005 and since 2002 he has continued to teach in the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard. But once upon a time at age 21 he traveled around the world on a floating university collecting childrens art in Japan China Indonesia India and Africa and studying the radical pedagogy of Paulo Freire. After returning to the U.S. he studied philosophy and photography at Goddard College in Vermont graduating with a B.A. in 1976 and studied photography and language with Nathan Lyons at Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester New York. from Wikipedia . For that reason everything already published was disregarded particularly those poems which were published in my books 'Land Israel' and 'Kleine Nachtwachen' the private Hamburg edition 'Neue Verse' and those published in the Schocken Verlag Almanachs. Block lightly age-toned. Overall in good to very good condition. The poems were written after Strauss' departure from Germany settling in Israel in 1934. Strauss embraces his fate and immerses himself into Jewish culture describing the nature of his new home with affection and respect alluding to his cultural upbringing metaphorically while coalescing present and past melancholically and grieving despair at times not without discrete cautioning of the danger at hand yet leading the way into the future. The poems are rendered in variant forms.
