The first of three films to follow the adventures of the Sloanes followed by "Fast and Loose" and "Fast and Furious" both released in 1939 although different actors played the couple in each of the three films. <br /> <br /> Set in New York City.<br /> <br /> 8 x 10 inches. An archive of 83 letters written between a young woman and her family in Vermont mostly while she was attending Smith College. The letters are dated between 1898 and 1920 with one from 1942. All items very good or better with tears from opening.<br /> <br /> A collection of letters between Florence M. Merritt and her family in St. Albands Vermont beginning in 1898 through 1914. A majority of the letters are from her time at Smith College between 1902 and 1907 some written on Smith stationary. In earlier letters Florence visits friends and family in Northampton Massachusetts which seems to have helped her make her decision to attend school there. She writes of her studies friends and family and her daily activities. In one letter she writes “I have been very busy this last week with my studies. It is not going to be an easy year by any means.†Other letters talk about “cramming for exams†and pairing up for off campus housing. Her father was co-owner of Merritt & Pease Grocers in Vermont and some of his letters are on the company’s stationary. <br /> <br /> After graduating from Smith Florence began an elementary school teacher back in Vermont. Her family was very religious and she was a member and treasure for the First Baptist Church in St. Albans. A year before her death she was honored by the local library for being a trustee for 50 years. unknown

Austin December 18 1936. 14-1/2" x 9" blue-backed legal-sized sheet headed "Proclamation by the Governor of the State of Texas. Signed by Governor James V. Allred and Secretary of State B.P. Matocha state seal affixed. Negligible wear rust marks from staples and paper clips. $350. Murphy an African-American was convicted of assault to rape in 1933. His pardon which notes the several appeals for clemency sent on Murphy's behalf refers specifically to a letter from District Attorney H.H. Wellborn "who states he was never satisfied about this negro's case that since his conviction certain things have come to light which leave him in doubt as to this negro's guilt that if he is guilty he has been punished sufficiently and that some of the best white citizens of his county are of the same opinion he is. unknown

Fair on aged paper with wear to wraps particularly spine and dog-eared front wrap. Bound in at the end is a separate seven-page pamphlet with a title-page which simply reads 'Toulon Port de Guerre par J. P.A. Madden.' The printer of this seven-page item is Imprimérie Cerf at Versailles. The fifth and last piece in the main item is a 'Traduction d'un article du TITAN sur les Aquarium.' On the title-page of the main item Madden is described as 'Membre de la Société des Sciences Naturelles de Seine-et-Oise Agrégé de l'Université imperiale'. Darwin apparent;y regretted not being able to land on Teneriffe on the Beagle. Scarce: the only copies of the main item on COPAC at the University of California and the Bibliotheque Nationale; and the only copy of 'Toulon Port de Guerre' at the Bibliotheque Nationale.
