Édition originale de cet ouvrage demeuré anonyme. L'auteur, qui se présente comme un citoyen hollandais, livre ses réflexions sur les rapports entre son pays de et la France révolutionnaire. Il dénonce la "Cabale stadhoudérienne" et se réjouit de l'"Alliance heureuse & honorable (qui) nous unit à cette France (...) seule capable de nous rendre notre ancien éclat" (p. 9). The Atlas comprises of numerous fine and very detailed technical illustrations of guns and cannons and their parts, accompanied by nomenclatures and extended explanations and measurements. This particular copy comes from the bequest of renowned uniform historian and researcher Dr. Pieter Roelse and includes, loosely inserted, a number of newspaper and magazine clippings, some very old, copied articles, correspondence between him and other uniformologists, etc., all very closely related to the book's subject.

Two parts in one volume. Paginated consecutively. Crown quarto. Pp. (ii), 22; (ii), 25-108. Plus 2 sketch maps, one of which is folding. Several tables. Original wrappers, bit worn and shabby, shelf tickets and old institutional stamp. In a very good internal condition, entirely still unopened. ~ First edition. Extremely rare. Roldanus submitted this work to a competition called in 1886 by the Vereeniging ter beoefening van de Krijgswetenschap, titled "De approviandeering der ontworpen stelling van Amsterdam, hare voorbereiding in tijd van vrede en hare uitvoering bij het uitbreken van een oorlog." The three contributors shared the price of fl. 500 but only Roldanus' work was found suitable for publication. In his work he goes into great detail as to the necessary provisions required both in time of peace and at war. In the supplementary tables he even provides a census of neighbouring municipalities, villages and hamlets that form the Defence Line of Amsterdam and specifies how many kilograms of meat, potatoes, peas, beans, rice, sugar, coffee, salt, paper, etc. etc. would be necessary to support these populations.

Dutch protestant Republic. Since it was impossible to establish a seminary in Holland at that time, Rovenius was convinced that publications such as his "Institutiones christianae pietatis" could contribute in great part to the 'devotional education' of (future) priests (and lay man).
