Alors disciple de Rousseau et actif dans le mouvement réformiste du Vivarais contre les États provinciaux, Antraigues publia cette brochure pour "dénoncer l'autorité des rois, le despotisme de l'État et stigmatiser les abus de la noblesse héréditaire, ainsi que les privilèges oligarchiques des États du Languedoc. Cet écrit incendiaire valut immédiatement à son auteur un grand succès populaire" (E.H. Lemay, 'Dictionnaire des Constituants', I, 26). L'auteur passa, dès 1790, à la contre-révolution et fonda l'un des plus importants services d'espionnage des Bourbon. (Martin & Walter, I, 428). 2- Edition originale. (France littéraire, III, 116. The Atlas comprises of numerous fine and very detailed technical illustrations of guns and cannons and their parts, accompanied by nomenclatures and extended explanations and measurements. Includes many rare photographic impressions of vehicles and artillery material with extremely detailed nomenclatures. On first paste-down there is a full-length hand-coloured manuscript drawing in contemporary hand.
