This is a very good softcover copy with almost no wear. Completely clean inside and out. This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Sotheby's New York on January 28, 1995. The sale consisted of the folk art collection of Mr. and Mrs. G. William Holland of Pennsylvania. Bill Holland's career as a photographer spanned 40 years, he took the photographs for Bernard Barenholtz's book American Antique Toys, among other books. 211 lots in the sale. All illustrated, many in color. No prices realized sheets, just price estimates for each lot. 11" high X 8" wide. This book will be securely packed and shipped with tracking.

Dorso a 4 nervi con titolo manoscritto da mano coeva. Pagine leggermente ed uniformemente brunite ma esempalre in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima rara edizione, due sole copie censite in ICCU e con numero minore di pagine e tavole, di questo importante studio pionieristico sulla saliva ed i dotti salivali. Antonius Nuck van Leiden (Harderwijk, 1650 – Leida, 5 agosto 1692) è stato uno dei medici e anatomisti più celebri del suo tempo. Dopo aver studiato a Leida, dove ricevette il dottorato nel febbraio del 1677, con una tesi sul diabete praticò l’arte medica a Delft. Nel 1683 si spostò a L’Aia per insegnare anatomia al Collegium anatomicum chirurgicum. Tornò poi a Leida dove ottenne una cattedra di medicina e anatomia. Famoso anche come oculista, otorino, dentista viene ricordato principalmente per i suoi studi sui vasi linfatici e le ghiandole salivari, di cui è considerato uno dei pioniere: inventò infatti la prima scialografia, sia introducendo un mezzo di “contrasto” nei dotti salivari, sia nei vasi sanguigni, come aveva già tentato Frederik Ruysch (1638-1731). Il suo nome attualmente è legato al dotto di Nuck e alle sue patologie. Esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. RARO. RARE. Good copy. Bibl.: Krivatsy, 8359 e Wellcome IV p. 250.

In a very good condition. ~ First edition. Prins' "De opleiding der compagnie" was published in 1888, also by Sijthoff of Leiden, and generated direct criticism, notably from Baron van Voorst tot Voorst and Sprokkelaar. Both Prins and his Publisher found it necessary to react directly: "Werd ons geschrift door sommigen met ingenomenheid begroet, het lokte van anderen een critiek uit, die ons in 't belang der zaak voorkomt, niet geheel onbeantwoord te moeten blijven." A few months later appeared the present Reply. It is interesting to note that the original publication comprised of 96 pages, while the Reply required no less than 39 pages to defend it. The Reply is divided in two practically equal halves with the first 19 pages directed at Van Voorst tot Voorst and the following 19 pages at Sprokkelaar. ~ Very rare. Only one copy is located in the Netherlands, that in the National War Museum. Another single copy is located worldwide, that in the British Library.
