Very rare first Portuguese edition of this treaty between Portugal and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland concerning the indemnification of Portuguese subjects for certain detained slave trade vessels as a result of British actions undertaken in pursuit of the abolition of the slave trade. "Britain agreed to pay compensation for the several Portuguese slavers detained brought before and condemned by British courts on the ground of illegal slave-trading along the African coast prior to 1814" J.P. van Niekerk "British Portuguese and American judges in Adderley Street ." pp. 22-23. Another edition of this same treaty in 8 pages was printed in the same year in Rio de Janeiro with the complete imprint including the place of publication.The present bilateral treaty comprising three articles printed in two columns in Portuguese and English was drafted on 21 January 1815 during the Congress of Vienna a series of international diplomatic meetings held in Vienna from September 1814 to June 1815 concerning the new layout of the European political and constitutional order after the downfall of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. The signatories of the present treaty were plenipotentiary at the Congress of Vienna formally this treaty was concluded between the Prince Regent of Portugal - future King John VI 1767-1826 - and the King of Great Britain and Ireland George III 1738-1820 as mentioned in the title.A more detailed description is available upon request.With the book plate of "Biblioteca de Hariberto de Miranda Jordão Filho" mounted on the front pastedown. The text leaves with a vague horizontal and vertical fold in the centre a manuscript annotation "21 Janeiro 1815" in brown ink in the upper outer corner of the first page some foxing. Sebastiao (è l’ultimo re di portogallo, che sarebbe morto nel 1578, e al quale sono dedicate fra l’altro ‘Os lusiades’, il poema di Camoes). In questa lettera si affrontano vari argomenti: dalla pestilenza che aveva colpito Lisbona proprio in quell’anno, alle questioni riguardanti le province portoghesi in India (si nomina la provincia del Malauar, nel Sud della penisola indiana), nonché le istanze bellicose del re Sebastiano, che intendeva organizzare una spedizione in Nord Africa: non ebbe il sostegno del Vaticano e la spedizione si risolse con una disfatta, in Marocco, nella quale perse la vita lo stesso Sebastiano. Morto senza eredi, il corpo non fu più ritrovato e divenne una figura mitica, il cui ritorno avrebbe dovuto liberare il portogallo dal successivo dominio spagnolo. Trata-se da decisão e comentário da Mesa Censória após uma investigação aos papéis pessoais do Bispo de Coimbra Frei Miguel da Anunciação tendo sido apreendido um livro de teses com o qual foi feito um Auto de Fé com a sentença deste auto nas últimas 3 páginas impressas e cuja execução pelo fogo foi realizada na Praça do Comércio de Lisboa em 4 de abril de 1769. O Sistema da Seita chamada Jacobea foi considerada contra a Autoridade Régia e absoluta neste período pombalino. Extremamente raro. Completo e em bom estado. 89 páginas. ASSINADO POR TRÊS CENSORES. Impressão original com marcas d ´água. Documento foi periciado por aquivo público e foi constatada sua autenticidade e que sua origem não provém de nenhum arquivo público. Carta tratta dal rarissimo atlante nautico del Barentsz edito postumo dal Janssonius con il titolo "Descriptio Maris Mediterranei per tabulas hidrographicas & geographicas", Amsterdam nel 1654. L'opera contiene dieci carte nautice del Barentsz, per la prima volta incluse nel suo "Caertboeck vande Middelandtsche Zee", 1595; le carte sono stampate con la lastra originale ma sono completamnete rilavorate, con numerose varianti e con meno elementi decorativi nel mare. L'atlante è completato da alcune carte dello stesso Janssonius e da altre del Mercator, sempre modificate dal Jannsonius. Il Koeman cita solo 4 esemplari di questo atlante!!! Incisione in rame, coloritura coeva dei contorni, in ottimo stato di conservazione. Rarissima edizione. Striking map from Barentsz's "Descriptio Maris Mediterranei, per tabula hydographics & geographicas, . . .", published by Janssonius in Amsterdam in 1654. This is a rare variant edition. The atlas includes re-issues of Barentsz's 10 maps (first included in "Caertboeck vande Middelandtsche Zee", 1595) of the Mediterranean, with Jansson having completely changed the title and reworked the decorative embellishments, removing many of the great images originally added by Barentsz. Copperplate, original outline colour, in very good conditions.

Duarte XI Rei de Portugal nascido em Viseu em 1391 e falecido de peste em Tomar depois de curto e atribulado reinado a 9 de Setembro de 1438. Os nossos historiadores deram-lhe o cognome de Eloquente. Foi este monarca muito dado às ciências e às letras as quais mostra ter cultivado tanto quanto o permitia o estado dos conhecimentos naquela época. As obras mais importantes saídas da pena d'El-Rei D. Duarte que depois de jazerem pouco menos que ignoradas eram apenas conhecidos os títulos por mais de quatro séculos gozaram afinal da luz pública são: Leal Conselheiro seguido da Arte de Bem Cavalgar. Dado pela primeira vez á luz sobre o manuscripto original da Bibliotheca Real de Paríscom notas philologicas e um glossario das palavras antigas por José Ignacio Roquete. Paris 1842. 4.o maximo com um fac simile do manuscripto. Do que se diz no prologo desta edição parece concluir se que fora o Visconde de Santarém o primeiro que ali descobrira a existência do Leal Conselheiro; porém isto não é exacto. Já em 1804 o Abade Corrêa estando em Paris deparou com o manuscrito que o continha como se vê de uma carta que o mesmo abade escreveu a Antonio de Araujo então ministro de Estado e da resposta deste; documentos que em seu poder conserva o Sr. M. B. Lopes Fernandes e que fez publicar na Revista Universal Lisbonense vol. III da 1.ª serie 1843 artigo 299. Portuguese historians have given him of The Eloquent. This monarch was much given to science and letters.
