14794Original vintage Gelatin silver print black and white press photo measuring 9 x 7" and dated September 26 1947. President Juan Peron signed a decree at the time granting women in Argentina the rights to vote and to obtain legal divorces. The photo depicts a throng of 10000 excited Argentinians celebrating at the Presidential Palace in Buenos Aires following the announcement. The decree was a major step forward in Argentinian women gaining legal equality that could protect them from the social conservatism that had denied them key rights within their homes and marriages in prior decades. Argentinian woman suffrage was a project promoted ardently by first Lady Eva Peron who advocated for women domestically and internationally and who founded and remained an influential member of the Peronist Women's Party until her death in 1952. The photo captures a thrilling collective moment in the modern woman rights movement. Wire photos are different than traditional photographic prints! This print is the result of what used to be breakthrough technology now completely obsolete that allowed a photographic image to be scanned transmitted over "the wire" and then printed at the receiving location. These are the originals that then were printed in newspapers across the country to illustrate the Newspaper story. In very good condition. unknown books

P003372Buenos Aires: Izd. Argentinskogo otdela Russkogo Obsche-voinskogo soiuza 1957. Octavo 19 à 14. Modern quarter cloth over boards with original printed wrappers preserved; 117 2 pp. Very good. This émigré commemorative volume is dedicated to General Mikhail Alekseev 1857-1918 founder of the White resistance movement. The volume celebrates Alekseev's centenary and 40 years since the Bolshevik Revolution and the formation of the White Volunteer Army in November 1917. A veteran of the Russo-Japanese War of 1905 and WWI Alekseev maintained close relations with the Czar Nicholas II serving as his Chief of Staff. In this capacity after the February Revolution Alekseev along with a number of other officials advised the Czar to abdicate advice which the Czar eventually followed. Subsequently Alekseev briefly and reluctantly operated under the Provisional Government. After the October Revolution he along with General Kornilov began to form the anti-Bolshevik Volunteer Army which he led until his death in 1918. The pamphlet was printed by the Argentine section of the Russian All-Military Union an émigré military organization founded in 1924 by General Wrangel in Serbia with the aim of connecting all Russian émigré military personal in various countries. The organization though anti-communist tried to hold a neutral political position uniting a variety of political opinions of more than one hundred thousand of its members. As such this publication points out General Alekseev's "modest origins" highlighting the class diversity of the White movement. 181537088Buenos Ayres: Imprenta de Niños Expòsitos 1815. First edition. About very good with chipped edges barely touching first letter of text on a few lines leaf browned. Broadside. 4to. The Cabildo retook control as stated in this document which Zinny dates to 16 April 1815. On the prior day Carlos MarÃa de Alvear who'd been appointed to replace his uncle Posadas as Supreme Director on January 9 1815 at the age of 25 resigned under pressure due to a mutiny among his troops. Alvear never had much support from the countryside nor from his troops his negotations with Artigas failed and his eventual attempt at seeking British intervention led to his exile. Very good. 22 leaves with twenty-one original photographs each 7 x 9 inches plus interleaved plastic guards. Oblong folio. Spiral wire bound plastic and synthetic boards with decorative wire edges. Light wear and soiling at boards edges. Occasional light soiling internally. Photos crisp and clean mounted directly to leaves. An attractive presentation album promoting the opening in 1939 of Falcon & Cia. the Argentinian distributor of Myrurgia a Spanish perfumer and cosmetics manufacturer. Falcon & Cia.'s offices were located at 743 Juncal in the same block with the iconic Palacio Estrugamou a monumental and elaborate example of Parisian residential architecture in Buenos Aires. By contrast the modernized headquarters of Falcon & Cia. are somewhat more functional but still reflect a sleek Art Deco style. The present album mostly showcases the renovated interior with modern open offices and architectural details with Deco furniture and design elements. The lack of ornamentation on the columns windows and floors reflect the contemporary international style and perhaps also the economics of this period at the end of the Depression just prior to the outbreak of World War II. This was also a time during which Spanish companies like Myrurgia expanded into South America in order to develop new markets and to manufacture their products locally thereby avoiding the chaos of their Civil War. A neat and scarce photographic document of architectural style in Argentina in the late 1930s. Not in OCLC. books
