French-language edition of this extensive transcript of debates held in the Canadian House of Commons concerning the construction of the Trans Canadian Railroad. Speakers include Sir Charles Tupper Minister of Railroads and Canals and H.L. Langevin the Minister of Public Works. First edition thus of this expanded edition of Gosnell’s 1860-1931 noted British Columbia Year Book and was originally self-published by first British Columbia Legislative Librarian and the first Provincial Archivist. Unlike the initial print run for this publication which consisted of only 216 pages this Year Book in reaction to the Klondike Gold Rush excitement expanded with a section on “The Canadian Yukon†with notes drawn from William Ogilvie article by H. Bratnober additional maps and even includes a section on the “Routes into Klondyke.†Also featured are numerous printed photos documenting stampeders on their way into the golden rivers and streams of the North. Small oblong octavo 14x18cm.; publisher's grey card wrappers lettered in white; 16ll. of pale grey stock to which are mounted sixteen 16 silver gelatin snapshots all ca. 8x8cm. on rectos only usually with manuscript captions on facing page. Some photographs a bit overexposed at margins else an exceptional album in Near Fine condition. Retains the album seller's ticket inside rear cover "Ward's Souvenir Album" rubberstamped no. 11.<br /> <br /> Small souvenir album capturing the rather long journey from Mankato Minnesota to British Columbia. The first nine photographs appear to have been taken in the former location possibly the photographer's home the images depicting scenes around a woodframe house and a young girl astride a horse before turning outward to views of the Minnesota River from the bluff of North Mankato the cows on said bluff Minneopa Falls and the Minnesota River Bridge. The next location captured is a train station between Denver and Colorado Springs presumably Pikes Peak looming in the background. The next shot shows a rather large group of people both men and women walking along the railroad tracks through Royal Gorge Colorado the bank of the Arkansas River just a few feet to their left. The following photograph jumps from the Gorge to the Cawston Ostrich Farm in Pasadena California where a rather substantial clutch of ostriches peer out at the photographer from behind their enclosure's gate. The farm the first of its kind opened in 1886 to meet the demand for newly-fashionable ostrich feathers and was immediately a major tourist attraction. Two photographs follow of a horse-back ride across Mt. Lowe a peak in the southern folds of the San Gabriel Mountains California. The concluding two photographs show the train ride from northern California en route to Portland Oregon and finally a view of Mt. Sir Donald "highest peak of the Selkirk mountain British Columbia. unknown

As a missionary he made significant inroads for Methodism by translating hymns and biblical texts into Ojibwe and Mohawk and because of his ability to communicate with non-English speaking Indians. This work edited and published posthumously by Jones' wife Eliza offers a detailed survey of the history social structure religious beliefs ceremonies language etc. of the Ojibwe in Canada and the United States. First editions of these uncommon original catalogue and the official list of contributing schools colleges and educational institutions to the 1880 Canada Dominion Exhibition held in Montreal for 10 days and also featured displays of industrial machinery farm products flowers along with horse racing lacrosse tournament and Highland games. The Dominion Exhibition was held annually in Canada from 1879-1913 and every year the location changed to assorted Provinces typically to coincide with local Fairs. It ceased at the outset of World War I. These catalogues detail all of the Catholic and Protestant schools convents monasteries colleges and universities appeared in Montreal often with samples of their student’s achievements in arithmetic geography literature history & art. A gold-toned 1886 photograph credited to Edouard Deville measuring 7.75 x 5.5 inches wide and mounted onto a 9 x 6-1/8 inch thick green card captioned in black ink near lower edge "Waggon Road and Fraser River Canonsp". Deville was the Surveyor General of Canada from 1885 to 1924 and was responsible for introducing new techniques such as photogrammetry to Canadian surveying. The BC Archives hold of copy of this 1886 photo which they also credit to Deville see 198604-011. Verso with a badly damaged 6 x 8 inch wide photo captioned "Hog's Back Falls Ottawa". The Hog's Back Falls officially known as the Prince of Wales Falls is rarely referred to by this name today. Deville photo with minor stains and rubs. An intriguing photo from a seminal moment of the "connecting" of a new nation fastening together here in a single photo-narrative the latest technological advances of the country's road builders tunnel and bridge makers telegraph operators and the Canadian Pacific Railway. unknown
