Il analyse en détail les routes et marchandises échangées entre l’Angleterre et le reste du monde (Espagne et Portugal, Amérique, Guinée, France et Pays-Bas, Allemagne et Hollande, Méditerranée, etc.) en appuyant son analyse sur des statistiques chiffrées. L’ouvrage est célèbre pour prophétiser que les colonies britanniques d’Amérique se révolteraient un jour contre leur maître et acquérir leur indépendance.
