6156SIMON GREENLEAF 1783-1853. Greenleaf was a Maine lawyer and jurist and professor at Harvard University.ALS. 1 pg. 8 x 10. January 16 1823. Portland. An autograph letter signed S. Greenleaf to Capt. Browne: Sir Having consulted with Mr. Abbot respecting the suit commenced by Mr. Lakeman against Mr. Gray we think it for the interests of Mr. Gray to refer all demands between them to arbitrators if suitable men can be agreed upon. If not it will be expedient to commence in the Circuit Court of the United States a class action on Mr. Grays demands against Mr. Lakeman hat both actions may proceed with equal pace & be determined at the same time The Court will probably appoint auditors to state the accounts between the parties but I think it doubtful whether gentlemen living out of this District will be appointed without mutual consents. At this time Simon Greenleaf was a court reporter of the Maine Supreme Court a position he would serve in from 1820 to 1832. The letter is in fine condition with some minor folds. unknown

Parmi les dizaines d’auteurs cités : Jarry, Tzara, Birot, Apollinaire, Follain, Guillevic, Genêt, Segalen, Saint-Pol Roux, Butor, Jaccottet, Bonnefoy, Paz, Agrippa d’Aubigné, Casanova, Hugo, Banville, Gautier, Rebeel, Claudel, Hermant, Audiberti, Tardieu, Vitrec, Arrabal, Artaud, Beckett, Tanning, Vian, Stas, Baillon, Douassot (Fred Deux), Carco, Tournier, Troyat, Martin du Gard, Lou s, Bataille, Fini, Sabatier, Schwob, Noël, Durrell, Moravia, Tellier, Faulkner, Lowry, Yourcenar, Camus, Mac Orlan, Borgès…
