195290185Washington DC: U. S. Government Printing Office 1952. Revised Edition Korean War era. Staplebound. Good. The format is approximately 6.25 inches by 4.125 inches. Back cover folds over front of messages. Cover has some wear and soiling. This message book originally consisted of 25 sets of message forms in triplicate 22 present for regular use and 10 sheets of tracing paper all present. To write a message the instructions are to insert the extension of the back cover under the message set to be used. When the message has been written the writer was instructed to grasp the stub of the wet ad the extreme upper right-hand corner with the right hand and tear the entire set less the third copy for the book. To separate the first and second copies of the message from the carbon and right-hand stub the instructions are to retain the original grasp of the upper right-hand corner with the right hand; grasp the upper left-hand corner with the left hand being careful not to include the carbon; then separate the two copies of the message from the right-hand stub and carbon sheets by tearing along the one right-hand perforated. The user was instructed to destroy the carbon sheets and attached stub. Inside the front cover is a list of 14 specific instructions related to filling out the form and appropriate message content. Several military organizations used message books of similar size/formats some with two copies other--like this Marine Corps item--in triplicate. These are by function ephemeral items and relatively few have survived. This copy lacks only three message sets. It has no individual identifying information. This is an excellent resources for museums collector displays and re-enactors. Surviving copies from the Korean War era are scarcer than similar items from WWII. U. S.
