Cloth taped spine. Manuscript presentation from the Marquess of Bute to Robert Stephenson. Bute Docks: Following the development of the coal found in South Wales, the export of both coal and iron products required a sea connection to the Bristol Channel. In 1794, the Glamorganshire Canal was completed, linking the then small town of Cardiff with Merthyr, and in 1798 a basin was built, connecting the canal to the sea. By the 1830s, Cardiff became the pre-eminent iron-exporting port, shipping almost half of British overseas iron exports; between 1840 and 1870. Lack of proper dock facilities led Cardiff's foremost landowner, John Crichton-Stuart, 2nd Marquess of Bute (1793-1848), to promote the construction of the (West) Bute Dock. Designed by Admiral William Henry Smyth (1788-1865), hydrographer, astronomer, antiquary, and author of this work. It opened in October 1839. Just two years later, the Taff Vale Railway was opened, following much the same route as the canal. Bute created modern Cardiff, Wales and the docks there. Robert Stephenson (1803-1859) was an English civil engineer. He was the only son of George Stephenson, the famed locomotive builder and railway engineer (many of the achievements popularly credited to his father were actually the joint efforts of father and son). This is a near fine hardcover copy in a very good dust jacket with just a little wear at the base of the spine of the jacket. Signed in ink, by the artist, Marina Nynez del Prado, on the title-page underneath her printed name. Not inscribed to anyone, just signed with the artist's address. Otherwise completely clean inside and out. Text in Spanish. Illustrated in black & white with photographs of this modernist sculptor's works, several fold-outs. Marina Nunez del Prado (1910- 1995), was born in La Paz, Bolivia and worked in Bolivia and eventually Peru her whole life. 10" high X 7" wide, 227 pages. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.

Interessante processo relativo alla condanna di dieci anni di carcere inflitta ad Antonio Gramondo per aver colpito con un bastone il funzionario pubblico Domenico Calsamiglia. L'antefatto che porto' al gesto e' il motivo per il quale si richiedono delle attenuanti per Gramondo. L'amministrazione giurisdizionale di Alassio in capo all'armata francese richiese un prestito di 30 mila franchi ai piu' ricchi abitanti della Giurisdizione. La notizia fu quindi notificata con un messaggio all'amministrazione municipale di Diano. La lettera fini' nelle mani di due agenti municipali Domenico Calsamiglia e Giovanni Novaro di Diano Marina i quali decisero di occultarla essendo anche loro indicati fra coloro che avrebbero dovuto provvedere all'esborso del denaro. I due rifecero poi la lettera togliendo i propri nomi ed indicando quello di Antonio Gramondo al quale chiedevano 1000 franchi. Il sotterfugio venne in seguito scoperto, ai due funzionari venne intimato di non aprire piu' tali lettere e a Gramondo venne notevolmente ridotta la quota da versare (da 1.000 a 125). Tuttavia, quando Gramondo si trovo' di fronte Calsamiglia, non pote' fare a meno, a seguito di un diverbio insorto, di sferrargli un colpo con il proprio bastone, gesto per il quale fu condannato a 10 anni di carcere in quanto rivolto ad un funzionario pubblico.

Brossura editoriale illustrata (il disegno di copertina pur non firmato dovrebbe ascriversi alla mano di Guido Marussig, autore di simili illustrazioni in occasione del viaggio inaugurale del transatlantico nel 1923. Questa pubblicazione e' dedicata alla prima classe del Duilio e presenta 29 illustrazioni fotografiche dei vari ambienti completate da illustrazioni pittoriche che raffigurano scene di vita a bordo. Il Duilio, costruito insieme al gemello Giulio Cesare dai cantieri Ansaldo, fu molto apprezzato per la sua eleganza, in particolare della prima classe e inizialmente fu utilizzato sulla linea per il Nord America.

Gloire de la maison de Coligny, il suivit la fortune du prince de Condé et prit part à sa révolte. Il devint, par la suite, son ennemi irréconciliable et fit la paix avec la cour. Envoyé comme lieutenant général en Hongrie au secours de l'empereur contre les Turcs, il contribua puissamment à la victoire de Saint-Gothard en 1664. 2- Première édition des Mémoires de Philippe le Valois, marquis de Villette (1632-1707). Précédés d'une "Notice historique sur le Marquis de Villette" par L.-J.-N. de Monmerqué, d'un "Mémoire sur la marine de France" par M. de Valincourt, d'un "Mémoire au Roy sur la marine de France" par le comte de Toulouse, et suivi, outre les pièces justificatives, de "Lettres du Marquis de Villette à MM. de Pontchartrain".
