Containing 40 pp. of thick cardboard with 140 black and white and 4 color photographs pasted in and 4 B & W photos and 1 negative laid in. The album rendered unique and amazing by the addition of 15 exquisitely detailed SIGNED pen and ink drawings of warships 11 modern Soviet Navy warships and 4 tall ships on rice paper with each drawing interspersed between the photography pages. Its members included Alexander Hamilton John Jay George Clinton Cadwallader Colden St. John de Crevecoeur Hugh Gaine Benjamin Judah Rufus King Nicholas Roosevelt and other luminaries. These are to Certify that Capt. Asmus Leonhard was by a majority of Votes regularly admitted a Member of the New York Marine Society at a Meeting held the 8th day of February A.D. 1897. Given under my hand and the Seal of the Society this 15th day of February Annoque Domini 1897 signed Thos. M. Nichols Secy. Austin Jayne President" with the blue raised seal of the Society and their motto "Add to Charity Knowledge"; Interesting image with four separate scenes in the border an explorer with charts and maps a scene of shipwreck a Native American on shores and another view of what appears to be New York harbor; image Artwork by J. L. Winn Inc. Engraved by Morrison Moorfields London; New York Marine Society was a benevolent and highly respectable Society and is one of the oldest in the United States. The Charter was granted at New York on the twelfth day of April seventeen hundred and seventy signed by Cadwallader Colden Lieutenant-Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Province. It was founded by either principal inhabitants of the City of New York or masters of vessels sailing out of the port of New York for the purpose of improving maritime knowledge and for relieving indigent and distressed and the wives and orphan children of deceased masters of vessels; unexamined out of frame which still has the old label of Rover Lee & Clem successors to Max Jacoby Fine Art Publishers and Importers 104 & 106 William St. cor.
