Ce titre fait partie, sans que cette mention soit inscrite dans l'ouvrage, des œuvres de Pierre Loti en 15 volumes, chaque titre étant très souvent vendu séparément. Quelques rousseurs sur les barbes, quelques traces sur le plat de couverture conservé, sinon bel exemplaire.
In-8, broché, couverture imprimée, 189, (1) p., nombreuses statistiques. Edition originale et unique. L'auteur était commissaire-adjoint du Japon à l'Exposition universelle de 1900 et chargé du service industriel du Ministère de l'Agriculture et du commerce. "L’auteur peut se prévaloir d’une double expérience. Il a été chargé du service industriel au sein du ministère de l’Agriculture et du Commerce. A ce titre, il a participé à la rédaction d’un projet de loi ouvrière dont il analyse le contenu. Il a en outre été nommé commissaire adjoint du Japon pour l’exposition universelle de 1900 qui se tient à Paris dont il escompte qu’elle ‘permettra au Japon de se montrer sous son vrai jour’ (...). Dans cet ouvrage, Kashiro Saïto dresse un tableau de la situation économique et sociale de son pays et expose des vues plus personnelles. Il relève notamment: ‘Une législation ouvrière s’impose, au Japon, soit au point de vue de l’intérêt public, soit au point de vue de l’intérêt privé (…)’. La première publication en langue française spécifiquement consacrée à la question de la législation ouvrière au Japon" (cf. F. 159 pages. Author is a Black American, born in New York City, who has lived in Japan since 1975. Her bimonthly "Crossing Cultures" column was a popular feature of the Japan Times. This publication is a compilation of 65 of those columns. "Not a few times, I have been asked if this or that 'really' happened, if someone 'really said that.' Though I admit I write fiction, I do not write it for the Japan Times." - from Introduction. In fine condition but for moderate spine lean. Unmarked. Very light wear.
