The book concerns the history of Ancient Anatolian women in its historical and social development and the life of the Hurro-Hittite queen Puduhepa. It begins with a scrutinizing of the role of woman from the prehistoric times down to the Hittite period (60.000-17700 BCE) and outlines, regarding also the feminism, the history of the woman, and details the women and queens among the Hittites. My starting point is that it is absolutely worthwhile to single out the life and unique deeds of a matriarchal woman who lived and acted fortuitously in the midst of extremely patriarchal Indo-European society in Hatti. She is the only Hittite queen, who bears quasi-"feminist" features, and her role in the Hittite-Anatolian society remains unique.

As a scholar who was fascinated both by Indo-European Linguistics and Ancient Near Eastern and Classical Studies, he had a durable impact on Hittitology through his numerous contributions. His publications dealt with History of Near Eastern Religions, Cuneiform Philology, and Hittite, Luwian, and Hurrian grammar, among many other topics. This conference was organized in honor of his 100th birthday. Its aim was to discuss the recent developments in Hittitology, the ones to whom Emmanuel Laroche contributed and the ones which occurred after his time. The following themes are dealt with in this volume: Anatolian Linguistics, Cuneiform and Hieroglyphic Philology and Epigraphy, Religions of Bronze and Early Iron Age Anatolia, History and Historical Geography of Asia Minor, but also Near Eastern Archaeology, as Emmanuel Laroche was also very close to this discipline. Let us add to those fields Historiography which illustrates, among other things, the impact of Emmanuel Laroche's work on today's Hittitology. Il y a 100 ans, Emmanuel Laroche voyait le jour. Savant à la fois passionné de linguistique indo-européenne et d'Antiquité, il marqua durablement l'hittitologie par ses nombreuses contributions dans des domaines aussi variés que l'histoire des religions proche-orientales, la philologie cunéiforme ou encore la grammaire du hittite, du louvite et du hourrite. Ce colloque organisé en l'honneur de son centenaire a été l'occasion de faire le point sur les avancées de l'hittitologie actuelle, avancées auxquelles il participa tout au long de sa vie et qui se poursuivent après lui. Les axes thématiques qui sont abordés dans ce volume sont ceux qu'Emmanuel Laroche développa de son vivant, à savoir la linguistique des langues anatoliennes, la philologie et l'épigraphie cunéiforme et hiéroglyphique, les religions de l'Anatolie hittite et néo-hittite, l'histoire et la géographie historique, mais aussi l'archéologie proche-orientale, domaine qu'Emmanuel Laroche côtoya de près. Ajoutons à ces domaines celui de l'historiographie qui illustre, entre autres choses, l'impact des travaux d'Emmanuel Laroche dans l'hittitologie d'aujourd'hui.

Bergama/Pergamon bietet seinen Besuchern die seltene Gelegenheit, vier Jahrtausende Siedlungs- und Stadtgeschichte an der Schnittstelle von Anatolien und der Ägäis im Kontext eines modernen urbanen Gefüges zu erleben. Als sich im zweiten Jahrtausend vor Christus auf dem Stadtberg von Pergamon Menschen ansiedelten und eine erste Befestigung errichteten, begründeten sie zugleich eine nahezu ungebrochene Kontinuität, die über die hellenistische Residenzstadt der Attaliden, die Metropole der römischen Kaiserzeit sowie die byzantinischen und osmanischen Landstädte bis heute andauert. Diese historische, kulturelle und städtebauliche Vielschichtigkeit bewog die UNESCO 2014, Pergamon und seine vielschichtige Kulturlandschaft in die Liste der Welterbestätten aufzunehmen. Die besondere Aufmerksamkeit der Forschung ebenso wie des Tourismus gilt weiterhin vor allem den herausragenden antiken Bauresten, die seit 140 Jahren wissenschaftlich untersucht werden. Doch kann Bergama auch mit bedeutenden Bauten der osmanischen Epoche aufwarten, die von den Anfängen im 14. Jahrhundert bis zur multiethnischen Kleinstadt des späten 19. Jahrhunderts reichen. Die architekturgeschichtlich interessanten ersten Jahrzehnte der türkischen Republik haben weitere bedeutende Spuren hinterlassen, die heute vom rapiden Um- und Ausbau Bergamas stark in Mitleidenschaft gezogen werden. Um so wichtiger ist es, daß auch das nach-antike Kulturerbe im modernen Stadtgebiet wissenschaftlich dokumentiert und publiziert wird. Dieses Ziel verfolgt der vorliegende Band in der Reihe MIRAS, die Grundlagenforschungen zu Denkmalpflege und Kulturerhalt in der Türkei ebenso umfaßt wie aktuelle Diskurse oder konzeptionelle Studien. Das aufwendige mehrsprachige Konzept der Reihe hat sich dabei aufs Neue als sinnvoll erwiesen: Die erstmalige systematische Erfassung und analytische Gliederung des reichen Bestandes an Profan- und Sakralbauten im Stadtgebiet von Bergama soll den vielfältigen türkischen und deutschen Forschungstraditionen zur Verfügung werden, die sich mit Bergama/Pergamon und der Stadtkultur Kleinasiens beschäftigen. Vor diesem Hintergrund gilt unser erster Dank Demet Ulusoy Binan sowie ihren Mitautoren Mevlüde Kapti und Binnur Kiraç, die mit dem Projekt zur Inventarisierung der städtischen Denkmäler in Bergama über Jahre hinweg Großes geleistet und die Erforschung von Bergama/Pergamon wesentlich bereichert haben. Für das DAI als Träger der Pergamongrabung im Auftrag des Ministeriums für Kultur und Tourismus der Republik Türkei ist es Ehre und Freude zugleich, daß diese wichtige Studie in einer Reihe der Abteilung Istanbul erscheint. Wesentlichen Anteil daran hat unser ehemaliger Zweiter Direktor Martin Bachmann, der das Erscheinen dieses Bandes, den er mit Nachdruck gefördert hat, leider nicht mehr erleben durfte. Seinen Part haben unsere Mitarbeiterinnen Burcu Akan und Seçil Tezer Altay mit großem Engagement übernommen. Für die Übersetzung des türkischen Originaltextes ins Deutsche gebührt Heike Offen-Eren und Dilek Zaptçioglu Dank und Anerkennung. An der Finanzierung der Drucklegung des Bandes haben sich die Stadtverwaltung Bergama und die Kulturstiftung BERKSAV (Bergama Kültür ve Sanat Vakfi) maßgeblich beteiligt, wofür wir dem Bürgermeister von Bergama Mehmet Gönenç und der Vorsitzenden von BERKSAV Muharrem Esen sehr zu Dank verpflichtet sind. Auch in dieser Hinsicht ist der vorliegende Band ein gelungenes Beispiel für die türkisch-deutsche Kooperation in der Erforschung und Bewahrung des kulturellen Welterbes auf dem Boden der Türkei.
