New English Original bdg. HC. In publisher's special box. Folio. (51 x 35 cm). In Turkish. 36 p., ills. The Tabula Peutingeriana with its traces in the Ottoman and Turkish geography. Tabula Peutingeriana (= The Peutinger Map), also referred to as Peutinger's Tabula or Peutinger Table, is an illustrated itinerarium (an ancient Roman road map) showing the layout of cursus publicus, the road network in the Roman Empire. The map is a 13th-century parchment copy of the Roman original, and covers Europe (without the Iberian Peninsula and the British Isles), North Africa, and parts of Asia (including the Middle East, Persia, and India). The original map which the surviving copy is based on is thought to date to the 4th or 5th century and was itself based on a map prepared by Agrippa during the reign of the emperor Augustus (27 BC-AD 14). Named after the 16th-century German antiquarian Konrad Peutinger, the map is today kept at the Austrian National Library in Vienna (Spurce: Wikipedia).

Karatepe: A priliminary report on a new Hittite site.= Karatepe: Yeni bir Eti harabesi (Ilk rapor). (Publications of the Institute for Research in Ancient Oriental Civilisations No. 1). "The exploration in Anatolia undertaken in summer 1945 by the Institute for Research in Ancient Oriental Civilisationsof the University of Istanbul (the staff of the expedition, consisting of Prof. Dr. H. Th. Bossert, his assistants Dr. Halet Çambel, Nihal Ongunsu and Muhibbe Darga, were accompanied by Bay Ali Riza Yalgin of the Direction of Antiquities from ankara), led us along the road over the Taurus pass connecting Kayseri with south-eastern Anatolia and North Syria over Gezbel, Saimbeyli, Feke, Kozan and Ceyhan. Our aim was to determine as far as possible, the anient Hittite road at the time of the new Hittite Empire. On our way we seized every opportunity of getting information from the inhabitants about possible Hittite monuments in the vicinity. In this way we collected a number of pieces of information which seemed worth while examining. Among others was a rumour about a supposedly Hittite lion-relief worked on the rock, somewhere in the mountainous region east of Kadirli. It being already very late in the season, we were unable to check this information right away and had to postpone the matter until next year...". This rare first preliminary report on Karatepe, that this discovery of a Hittite site and of an Old-Semitic inscription. Signed and inscribed by Bossert to Bahadir Alkim.
