New Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 192 p., b/w ills. Cilicia'da Yahudiler. Jews of Cilicia. In the historical process, Jews began to live outside of Iudaea because of various wars since the famous Babylonian exile, and thus the Jewish diaspora emerged. For this reason, in Jewish religious texts, clues can be followed in areas where Jews spread or in which they establish a commercial relationship - for example, Cilicia. For the Jews in the Old Age, Cilicia's land suitable for agriculture, its temperate structure similar to ludaea in terms of climate, its sea limiter, should be attractive to live. This book aims at examining Cilicia, a place of wild nature images in the past, and the ancient congregation of an ancient congregation that has a special place in history. Thus, the existence of Jews in Cilicia is being presented to readers with concrete data.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Cr. 8vo. (21,5 x 12 cm). In English. 336 p. Color ills. "Cilicia played a very important role in the history of civilizations, with its extensive arable lands and its position as a bridge between Anatolia, Mesopotamia and the Eastern Mediterranean, connecting these areas by land, sea and rivers. At the same time, Cilicia created its very own culture, and its peoples carried this culture to other regions, founded independent states, and recorded their languages already in ancient times. It is one of the few regions where over the centuries great inventions were made and major developments occurred in religion, literature, medicine, pharmacy, philosophy, magic and divination. The most important reason for writing this book is to introduce the archaeological and cultural heritage of Cilicia as well as its natural beauty in a convenient handbook, in both English and Turkish, while also summarizing recent developments in the region. It serves not only as a travel guide, but also presents spectacular images of the region. Several travel routes leading from west to east within the region are suggested. It is expected that especially tourism professionals will benefit from this publication.".

New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In English. 372 p. Color and b/w ills. "The country of ancient Commagene spreads between the Taurus Mountains and the Euphrates in South-Eastern Turkey. Located at the eastern fringe of the Mediterranean world Commagene has been a border region for many centuries. Rooted in Near Eastern traditions the country was exposed to frequently changing religious systems and political powers. Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Armenians, Seljuks, Crusaders, Mamluks, and Ottomans have left their mark on the fertile valleys and the barren hills. There are famous and much frequented places like the grave tumulus of the Hellenistic king Antiochos I on the Nemrut Dag, which is inscribed in the UNESCO world heritage list, or the roman city of Zeugma with its splendid mosaics. However, a considerably larger number of attractive monuments and sites - ranging from Hittite reliefs to impressive medieval castles - are to be explored in Commagene. This richly illustrated book provides a broad overview of the most important sites and their historical background. It aims at travellers in the region as well as readers interested in the history and archaeology of ancient Turkey.".
Book is fine. Very minor shelfwear to DJ else fine. ; Community Identity and Archaeology explores the concept of community identity and its application in archaeology, using the modern Turkish sites of Aphrodisias and Beycesultan as case studies to illustrate the formation and dissolution of communities over time. The concept of the community is vital to the way we understand human societies both past and present, and the last decade has seen widespread interest in communities from both the popular and academic spheres. The concept is also central to archaeology, where the relationship between sites and communities remains controversial. Naoíse Mac Sweeney aims to take the debate one step further, setting out a comprehensive framework for the archaeological investigation of community identity, encompassing theoretical approaches for its conceptualization, practical methodologies for its investigation, and detailed case studies in Anatolia to test and illustrate its arguments. ; 266 pages
