A later edition of this important geological map of the metropolis first published in 1870 and preceded only by Richard William Mylne's "Map of the Geology and Contours of London and its Environs" 1856. Jordan drew on Mylne's work and also the fieldwork of the Geological Survey of England and Wales - principally that of the geological surveyor William Whitaker whose name appears on the second edition dated 1882 and all subsequent issues.
