Ottoman inscriptions from Jerusalem and other Palestinian cities. From the year 1071 until 1917 Turks ruled Jerusalem. Between the Jews, Christians and all others who claim Jerusalem as their history holy city, the Turkish rule was longest in the history of the Holyland. First Seljukids, Artuqids and Zangids, and after that Mamluks from (1250 to 1516) and lastly Ottoman Turks ruled (from 1516 to 1917) in Jerusalem and surroundings. But despite this long rule, the Turkish heritage and contribution to Jerusalem is often overlooked or underestimated in the literature. In this book there are 122 inscriptions from Jerusalem and other parts of Ottoman Palestine mostly published for the first time. All the inscriptions are accompanied by recent photos on paper and CD-Rom, so that one can check the inscriptions and the authors interpretation and reading. There are also detailed maps of the location of the inscriptions.

The book also features musical notes to 3 songs composed by children, 8 b&w photographs, several illustrations and a short glossary for Hebrew neologisms. 250x220mm. 166 pages [+1]. Tan cloth rebound Hardcover. Worn pieces of original cover pasted on front cover and spine. Cover slightly stained/age-stained. Tiny puncture-mark on front cover edge. Spine upper edge bumped. Edges of pages 15-18, 22-23, 41-47, 50-53, 116-117, 128-131 worn. Page 113/114 (one of the drawings) torn. Pages 45/46, 117/118 and 143/144 bottom corner missing. Page 127/128 bottom edge near binding torn - NO damage to plate. Page 165/166 bottom edge and corner tattered - NO damage to text. Text block upper edge and several pages slightly age-stained. Pages slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This rare historical document of the linguistic and cultural world of the first Hebrew-speaking children is otherwise in good condition.
