The Okonite Co. founded in 1878 was one of the original insulators of electrical wire and cable in the United States. Early customers included Samuel F.B. Morse for his telegraph network and Thomas A. Edison for the Pearl Street Generating Station the nation's first built in New York City in 1882. This publication honored Hazard-Okonite who were serving in World War Two. It includes various messages from fellow employees of the firm and lists all those who were serving in May 1944 with their contact information. Writing on the front including the name and address of Dom Servillo the secretary-treasurer of the Service Committee that produced the booklet. A very scarce World War Two item. Folded to fit in a black case 21 x 13 cm. with text inside the front describing the pubisher's National Series of Commercial Maps. Population data taken from 1920 census indicating publication in the 1920s. 1922 as the year of publication is based on library records. The "Main Travelled Roads" described in the text as "the principal automobile highways" are shown in red on the map. This was a very important feature for the driver at this time before uniform highway signage. In Very Good Condition: lower corner of front of case creased; some separations starting along folds of map which is entirely intact. National Map Co unknown

Written on the inside of the back cover: "Hartsville Pa left at Barley Sheaf." The text indicates that Matthew Grier was 13 years old when he died and left behind a brother and sisters. Before his death he bid farewill to his parents siblings and even "the negroe wench" as well as addressing the neighbors who were there. Mearns delivers lessons to the children and youth of Neshaminy and to their parents about the wisdom of being prepared for death. He also suggests that Matthew was not the first of the Grier children to die saying to the parents: "God seems to be taking away your Children in Succession." In Very Good Condition: wrapper is slightly stained and starting to separate from the tail of the spine; pages are slightly soiled but solid. unknown
