Edizione pirata apparsa in Belgio un anno prima della 1a edizione autorizzata (Paris, Werdet, 1838); nel 1844 riedita da Furne col titolo "Les Employés, ou la femme supériere" nella serie "Scènes de la vie parisienne" della Comédie Humaine; dal 1845 in poi appare come "Les Employés". Il Belgio è stato per motivi linguistici (il francese ricopriva il ruolo che ora ha l'inglese) il paese ove la frode editoriale era più diffusa, ma anche il 1° ad organizzare la 1a conferenza internazionale (1858) sul diritto d'autore. Il diritto d'autore "moderno" risale al 1886 (Convenzione di Berna), mentre già Luigi XVI aveva concesso (per il teatro) agli autori il diritto a disporre delle proprie opere, generalizzato poi in epoca napoleonica.
