1948SDAL003New York: Doubleday & Company 1948 Translated by John Addington Symonds. Illustrated by Salvador Dalí with full-page color plates and black-and-white drawings. First trade edition. Signed by Dalí with an original drawing of a horse on verso of half-title page. Publisher's red cloth with horse illustration in gilt to front board and black label lettered in gilt to spine. Very good with some fading to spine some rubbing to spine label and dimming to spine gilt front board gilt bright and a hint of offsetting to endpapers. Overall an attractive copy scarce signed. The Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini was written by the Italian sculptor and draftsman in the sixteenth century although it was not published until 1728. This work detailing the personal life of a well-known artist has become perhaps the most important autobiography of the Italian Renaissance giving readers a glimpse into the lives of historical figures like Michelangelo and the Medici family. In his writing Cellini is unconcerned with maintaining a proper image of himself and uses humor and exaggerations to embellish his story even describing violent attacks he supposedly committed and otherworldly experiences he endured. This trade edition was preceded by a 1946 limited edition of 1000 numbered copies signed by Dalí. Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. New York: Doubleday & Company hardcover

18635734San Salvador 1863. Very good. 4pp. on a bifolium. Folio. Portion of lower margin torn away otherwise light edge wear. A fascinating and rather lengthy anti-Barrios address by his conservative opponents and would-be deposers in El Salvador. José Gerardo Barrios Espinoza was elected president of El Salvador in 1860 following several stints as interim head of state. The present work attacks Barrios' character the "abyss of evils" that he has brought upon the country and compares him unfavorably with every other Central American leader. The final page announces that the signers are joining the invasion of the country by Guatemala and its president Rafael Carrera and defends their choice as one necessary to rid El Salvador of its liberal leader. The Guatemalan and conservative Salvadoran forces succeeded in ousting Barrios in October 1863 nine months after the printing of this document. Very scarce OCLC locates just one copy at the National Library of Chile. unknown
18613383San Salvador 1861. Good. Broadside 12.5 x 8.5 inches. Old folds minor creasing small marginal tears and marginal chips along edges not affecting text. Lower corner torn away signs of tape repair to verso slightly browned due to paper quality. An evidently unrecorded broadside from El Salvador that thanks the “soldados ciudadanos" for their loyalty to Gerardo Barrios the President of El Salvador from 1859 to 1863. The document also urges these citizens to be prepared to arise from their peaceful existence at any time in order to defend their leader. Barrios was a popular President considered a national hero who improved the education system in El Salvador and worked to lessen the influence of the Catholic Church ordering all priests in El Salvador to swear loyalty to the government. In 1863 he lost his presidency to conservative leader Francisco Dueñas Díaz in a coup after which he fled the country. Barrios was court martialed and beheaded in 1865 when he returned in an attempt to regain power. None in OCLC. unknown
18335752San Salvador 1833. Good plus. Small broadside 8.5 x 6.25 inches. Disbound with small stab hole at gutter margin. Light wear and worming; two slightly larger worm holes in lower margin repaired with tape. Later bibliographical annotations in pencil. In this early Salvadoran broadside decree the government nullifies the appointment of Atanacio Urrutia to the Supreme Court and elevates Jose Felix Quiros in his stead. Printing seems to have arrived in El Salvador during the mid-1820s placing the present work within the first decade of the art there. Evidently rare -- we locate no other copies. unknown
18765735Chalchuapa El Salvador 1876. Still very good. 3pp. on a bifolium. Folio. Crinkling and minor wear at edges. Faint dampstain to upper right corner. The president of Guatemala Justo Rufino Barrios invaded El Salvador in 1876 following the presidential election there. Barrios suspected that both the elected and former presidents had been harboring Guatemalan opponents to his regime and hope to install someone more favorable. The present "political plan" for El Salvador reads more as an indictment of the two leaders Santiago Gonzalez and Andres del Valle than an as organizing document for a new government. The first signer here is Rafael Zaldivar the choice of Barrios for next president of El Salvador and the work was printed in the field at Chalchuapa on April 10 1876 approximately one week before the decisive battles that forced the capitulation of the Salvadoran government. Not in OCLC. unknown
18435755San Salvador: May 25 1843. Very good. Small broadside approximately 8.5 x 6.5 inches. Minor creasing and soiling. Small broadside that asks for the revelation of the author of an anonymous offending pamphlet and letter addressed to Isidro Viteri in San Salvador. Beyond the insults that must be corrected in the public record Viteri says that since the author calls him a "antiguo amigo mio" it is only fair that the identity of the provocateur be made known. May 25 unknown
19825401Washington DC 1982. About very good. Lithographic poster 34 x 22.75 inches printed on cheap paper. A few small chips and closed tears to edges old folds some light creasing. A striking poster advertising a "Mass Protest" in Washington D.C. in support of El Salvador and "against the Reagan Policy of Oppression at Home and Intervention in the Third World!" The poster is decorated by illustrations of about two dozen helicopters at top but is otherwise comprised of text in variously-sized fonts. The poster was issued by the March 27 Coalition whose sixteen member organizations are listed at the bottom left corner of the poster and include the American Indian Movement Black Veterans for Social Justice People's Anti-War Mobilization Puerto Rico Solidarity Committee Women's Pentagon Action and many others. According to a contemporary article in The Washington Post the protest drew an estimated 23000 demonstrators assembled to protest U.S. policy in El Salvador on the eve of elections in that country. The demonstrators accused the Reagan Administration of supporting a "civilian-military junta in El Salvador that is locked in a war against leftist insurgents." The present poster is a call to action for the protest but also calls for the U.S. to support jobs "human needs" and "Self Determination for the People of Central America and all Oppressed Nations -- No More Vietnam Wars!" The poster also calls for unity against "the Reagan Policy of Oppression at Home and Intervention in the Third World" as well as a call for "No to the Draft! No to Racism! and No to Sexism!" OCLC reports a single record of an El Salvador protest poster from San Francisco in 1981 and a handful of examples of protest posters for El Salvador from later in the 1980s but we could not locate any other copies of this 1982 protest poster. unknown
