Hill also notes he didn't have any pollock on hand. Amos White was a Dover New Hampshire merchant while Samuel Hill was a merchant in Portsmouth apparently importing items from the ships that anchored there. VERY GOOD. Some fold creases present. Pagination runs from 3 to 134 with all pages MISSING after 134 135/136. With printer's device at the top of the first page of text and an ornately presented first letter of the text. According to his gravestone in Newburyport Murray took part in recruiting volunteers for the Continental Army. This work presents his sermons focusing on Romans V.I. POOR condition lacking and wraps and endpapers as well as pages 135/136. Collated and otherwise complete. Appears disbound from a larger work with white cloth tape and a strip of modern paper along the binding edge of the title page. Moderate to heavy browning to the paper. Minor scattered soiling foxing and staining throughout. Fore edges of the first several pages chipped curled torn and worn with some loss. Upper corners curled over. Minor chipping and tearing along the lower extremity. Tears repaired at the center fore edge of the title page somewhat crudely done with a 3 inch and 1 inch paper patch. Heavy chipping tearing creasing and curling to the last 30 or so pages along the core edge. Large tear to the lower corner of the last page. With a dedicatory epistle to the King of Sweden. A chronicle of the Incans in Peru recounting briefly their life and culture before the arrival of the Spanish including an account of several festivals. Most of this work describes the Spanish conquest of South America in particular Peru and the Incans and the actions of Pizarro. EX-LIBRARY in FAIR/GOOD condition. Date sticker and small circular sticker on the lower spine. Library bookplate on the inside cover. Purple ownership stamp on the fore edge inside front cover and one page in the middle of the text. Upper front hinge split and separating along the upper 3 inches. Moderate to heavy scuffing to the leather especially along the extremities. Minor soiling uneven fading and a few very minor stains present to the covers. Extremities bumped and worn. Text block solid with scattered foxing and minor soiling throughout. Heavy dampstain in the upper and lower gutter of the first few pages disappearing by the first dedication page. Sabin record 44653 does not list this particular printing year. Printed by A. Volume two only of this study of the people climate and animals of North America. By Cornelius de Pauw a Dutch philosopher who despite never visiting America considered himself an expert on the country. He insisted that Native Americans were inferior to Europeans degraded by an inferior climate and asserted that Europeans that moved to America also became degraded. He routinely dismissed evidence to the contrary such as the Aztec calendar. With a rebuttal to de Pauw's work by Dom Pernety. GOOD condition. Ex-library with call numbers on the spine interior pastedowns and stamping. Minor soiling scuffing and fading to the covers. Small dampstain to the rear cover. The third ode appears to have been published in 1801 and was perhaps included as an afterthought Evans makes no mention of this ode. A speech reflecting on the importance of philandrianism in society and the duties of the members of the Philandrian Society touching on religious and philosophical ideas as well as the role of benevolent groups in America. The Philandrian Society was a secret society established at Brown University that was 'dedicated to the cultivation of friendship' with meetings held in which lectures on politeness or other moral or literary subjects were given see Mitchell: Encyclopedia Brunoniana online on the Brown University website. With several passages of historical detail on the American Revolution including brief mention of Yorktown and Valley Forge. A footnote also contains a short genealogy of the Washington family. This speech was given to the freemason members of the Mount-Vernon Lodge as well as to St. John's Church in Providence Rhode Island on February 22nd 1800 5800. GOOD condition.
