A map showing the geography of a region of Central to Northwestern Texas and New Mexico depicting the Canadian River Red River Arkansas River and Mississippi River parts of each. With locations of Fort Washita Fort Arbuckle Shawnee Village and a Shawnee Town Albuquerque Santa Fe and many other settlements and towns. Presumably issued to accompany the government report of the surveys of this region. POOR condition. Very large horizontal TEAR along the upper fold crease approximately 40 inches in length. Many other small tears along the folds all to some extent affecting the map. Tape repairs by a previous owner to many spots on the reverse. Minor uneven toning to the map. Burgess was an American actor from the mid to late 19th century noted for playing female roles specializing in elderly women and playing a variety of women in vaudeville performances. GOOD condition. Uneven fading. Faint vertical fold crease present. Some chipping tearing and minor loss along the extremities with splitting at the head and tail of the spine. Heavy toning to the text block. A promotional booklet issued to provide a guide to the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco that was celebrating the opening of the Panama Canal. The booklet contains a short history of the Panama Canal as well as extensive descriptions of the the Exposition itself including the buildings and palaces for the event. It also describes places to visit in San Francisco and California. Includes color illustrations of buildings black and white photos of places in Yosemite the California coast etc. Inside front cover with a bird's eye view map of the Panama Canal region with a bird's eye view map of San Francisco and beyond in the rear. The Panama Pacific International Exposition San Francisco was essentially a World's Fair that while touted as celebrating the opening of the canal also promoted the rebuild of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. Last 35 pages with faint dampstaining along the upper and fore edges resulting in several of the pages being STUCK together in that area although they look to be easily unstuck. Consisting of several pages stapled at the middle this presents a detailed floor plan of first class cabins and amenities on the cruise ship S.S. United States. With short advertising copy and information about the 'state of the art' aspects of the ship. The S.S. United States was a passenger cruise ship designed to US Navy specifications and subsidized by the US government as it was to be used as a troop transport ship in wartime should the need arise. It achieved speed records in crossing the Atlantic and was in service from July 1952 to 1969. GOOD condition. A short work discussing the upcoming construction of the Hennepin Canal suggesting that the eastern terminus at the Illinois River to be constructed first with the terminus in the Mississippi River to be selected after consideration of surveys. The Hennepin Canal was originally conceived of in the 1830s as a way to connect the Illinois River to the Mississippi River enabling a greater trade in commerce through more transportation options. Politics war and other obstacles delayed its construction until the 1890s. Completed in 1907 it operated in limited capacity until the early 1950s. With a stated circulation of 50880. Fifth issue of this small magazine issued by the Kukla Fran and Ollie Show essentially an early fanzine for fans of the show. The Kuklapolitan Courier began in 1948 increasing in circulation until 1950 when it changed to a book format and was issued as a yearbook. Kukla Fran and Ollie was ostensibly a television show for children created by Burr Tilllstrom in 1947. It involved puppets interacting with a woman Fran. Using subtle humor based on the characters of the show Kukla Fran and Ollie became more of a hit with adults and ran in various formats from 1947 to 1957. This issue of the Courier celebrates the show going national behind the scenes photos and a subtle advertisement for RCA one of the show's sponsors. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present.
