Field Marshall Sir William M. Gomm was Governor of Mauritius, 1842-49. The text which is part in French and part in English includes a letter from the Hon. Mr. G. C. Cuninghame on the Dodo being on the islands of Mauritius, Bourbon, and Rodrigues, about 200 years previously (pp.91-93), and a fascinating discussion on how people and boats could have reached Madagascar from the Malays, with further interesting comments on the Malayan language (pp.136-148). Other interesting topics include the cultivation of canes at Bourbon Island, a new mode of preserving and cutting canes, the diseases of canes, preservation of the roots of the manioc, and electricity applied to the growth of plants.

br. Nel 1939, in visita presso gli archivi di Lovanio, Merleau-Ponty legge per la prima volta il manoscritto husserliano sul "Rovesciamento della dottrina copernicana". È un incontro importante, che contribuisce in modo decisivo a fondare la cosmologia merleau-pontyana. Dalla rivoluzione scientifica ai viaggi spaziali, il nostro ancoraggio alla Terra - questo grande inaggirabile che si corrisponde con il corpo vivo - si è indebolito, facendosi più mediato. Che ne è, allora, del gioco che coinvolge il soggetto e il mondo? È possibile pensare la Terra come un oggetto? È necessario rinunciare a parlare di soggettività, come ha auspicato la generazione post-strutturalista? Questo libro è un esercizio di pensiero sul modello dello Spielraum, lo spazio di gioco che modula i rapporti tra il vivente e il suolo, tra il soggetto e il suo orizzonte di possibilità, e la proposta di un'ontologia del gioco che definisce una soggettività ecologica.

PER LA CRITICA DELL' ECONOMIA POLITICA

Per un paradigma del corpo: una rifondazione filosofica dell'ecologia

Nel momento in cui la questione ecologica ha assunto un'urgenza e una centralità indiscutibili, diventa essenziale fornirne un'inquadratura filosofica, che permetta di dare un significato-più univoco e coerente al concetto di ecologia, ben oltre il suo carattere meramente scientifico. Per converso, il riconoscimento della centralità di questo tema ha degli effetti dirompenti sullo statuto della filosofia, poiché comporta mettere in questione l'impianto categoriale e le forme di vita (anche in senso politico e sociale) della modernità nel suo complesso, ma anche sottoporre a critica i filoni dominanti di una millenaria tradizione occidentale. In questa direzione va la proposta di un nuovo paradigma del corpo, che ha in Maurice Merleau-Ponty, filosofo della corporeità e della natura, il suo punto di riferimento fondamentale, e che sì contrappone a quel paradigma ermeneutico, a quel predominio del linguaggio che ha egemonizzato la filosofia del Novecento, fino al poststrutturalismo e al postmoderno. In questo quadro, si abbozza la riformulazione, entro il nuovo paradigma, di alcune delle questioni fondamentali della tradizione filosofica: la natura, il soggetto, il lavoro, la tecnica, la libertà.
