Rae Dalven, (1905 1992) was a Romaniot Jewish-American translator and historian . Known for her translations of Greek poetry, such as, Modern Greek Poetry (1949) She also wrote two plays, A Season in Hell, which concerned the lives of the French poets Rimbaud and Verlaine, was successfully produced for the stage (1950) and Our Kind of People (1991) , an autobiographical production concerning a family of Jewish-Greek immigrants. Dalvens especial [sic] interest was in the history of the Jews in Greece, particularly the northern Ioannina community, who traced their ancestry to the ancient Palestinians (c300 BC) and had retianed their own customs and religious liturgy. She edited the academic journal the Sephardic Scholar and served as president of the American Society of Sephardic Studies (abitofhistory, 2018) . The present work is a comprehensive collection of all the most important Greek poets from 1751 to the 1940s. Mark Van Doren calls these English translations "natural and alive. Pagina contenente la veduta fantastica della città tratta dal Supplementum chronicarum orbis ab initio mundi. Giacomo Filippo di Bergamo (1434-1520), della famiglia Foresti, fu eremita agostiniano ed autore anche del Confessionale e del De claris mulieribus. La sua cronaca fu stampata per la prima volta nel 1483 a Venezia e successivamente aggiornata più volte; complessivamente sono conosciute sei edizioni incunabolo e sei stampate nel ‘500, di cui l’ultima nel 1553. La prima edizione in italiano è stampata a Venezia nel 1535, e da questa è tratta questa pagina. Xilografia, in ottimo stato di conservazione. Dimensioni 140x117. Bibliografia: Cremonini pp. 7/9, 2. Giacomo Filippo di Bergamo (1434-1520), of the Foresti family, was an Augustin hermit and author of Confessionale and De claris mulieribus. His works have been published for the fist time in Venice in 1483. The first Italian edition, from which the present example is taken, was published in 1535. Carta geografica tratta dal Tabularum Geographicarum contractarum libri septem di Petrus Bertius, edizione latina del 1616. L'opera contiene 219 carte che illustrano questa nuova versione della geografia del Bertius, per la prima volta pubblicata nel 1612 con le carte di Barent Langenes. Le carte derivano dal grande atlante di Mercator/Hondius, delle quali molte rappresentano una semplice riduzione. "After the death of Cornelis Claesz in 1609, Jodocus Hondius II became the new publisher of the work, composed by 7 parts in 1, with engraved title-page and 220 full-page engraved maps in text. All the maps were newly engraved and slightly larger in size, because Hondius was not able to acquire the original plates. With the new plates the work was definitely improved and enjoyed a growing demand of the public, which at that time had the choice between the Atlas Minor by Mercator and Bertius' Tabularum Geographicarum. The 219 plates, with the oval world map appearing twice, were produced to illustrate a new version of the geography of Bertius, published in 1616. According to King, their correct attribution is by Hondius, after Mercator and Hondius, taken from Bertius, who was only responsible for revising his text again" [cfr. G. In 8° grande; VIII, 469, (3) pp. e 8 c. di tav. alcune più volte ripiegate. Legatura novecentesca in mezza-tela con piatti foderati con carta marmorizzata coeva. Qualche leggerissima fioritura ininfluente in alcune pagine, dovuta alla qualità della carta e presente in tutti gli esemplari ma nel complesso, esemplare in buone condizioni di conservazione. La più celebre opera dedicata ad Atene dal famoso antiquario, numismatico e diplomatico inglese, William Martin Leake (Londra, 14 gennaio 1777 - Brighton, 6 gennaio 1860). L'opera qui presentataè considerato, il primo tentativo di trattare in maniera scientifica lo studio topografico di una città per comprenderne le varie stratificazioni storiche ed i cambiamenti avvenuti duranti i secoli. La precisione e attinenza storica di questo studio lo fece ritenere il migliore sull'argomento eseguito, sotto diversi aspetti, per lunghissimo tempo. A lui si deve anche la mappatura delle coste dell'Albania e della Morea. "Nel 1807, in seguito allo scoppio della guerra tra Turchia e Inghilterra, fu fatto prigioniero a Salonicco; ma, ottenuta la sua liberazione nello stesso anno, fu inviato in missione diplomatica presso Alì Pascià di Ioannina, di cui conquistò la fiducia, e con cui rimase per più di un anno come rappresentante britannico".
