È solo il naufragio di questa amplissima produzione letteraria, della quale possediamo oggi soltanto una manciata di frammenti, ad aver artificialmente semplificato il quadro, inducendo l'erronea opinione che la variante infine affermatasi come standard fosse anche l'unica elaborata dalla cultura latina. Un autre édition fut publiée la même année à Lyon. Etat moyen (petit travail de vers marginal sur les 110 premières pages en queue affectant très légèrement le texte, dos abîmé avec manque mais reliure bien solide, ex-libris contrecollé au verso de la page de titre "The Right Honorable Algernon Capell, Earl of Essex, Viscount Maldon & Baron Capell of Hadham 1701). Il s'agit d'une des deux traductions françaises du récit des combats menés par le Marchese Villa contre les Turcs en Crète.
