The Contents are clean and fresh and unmarked with the single exception of a library stamp at the top of one page of text in No. 4 and include many full page woodcut illustrations. . At the dedication of the Pioneer Hall of the Society of Calfiornia Pioneers O P Sutton the President of the Society gave the inaugural address. He was one of the Forty-Niners who arrived in San Francisco in 1849. He began work in the mines and after failure returned to the city where he established a mercantile business He participated in the organization of the Democratic Party in California and in 1863 he was elected to the California Legislature. The Oration by Eugene Lies was one of the early settlers of Santa Barbara and he also served in the California Legislature. The book is in good condition with some light dampstaining on pages 25-27. Articles deal with administration issues deployment of equipment etc. Following the Regulations is a table identifying each of the Engines and Hose Hook and Ladders and Sail Carriages in the Department 15 pieces of equipment in all their location their Firewards an inspection report of each of the Fire Wagons a listing and inspection report on the equipment of each Fire Wagon and an inspection report of each Engine House. This work is a first edition first impression of the work. With three pages of original publisher's advertisements and a monochrome plate illustration of Sutton & Sons' Seed Establishment Reading at the rear of the work. This is a distinctive Victorian-era culinary guide that reflects the domestic efficiency of this period. This copy offers practical instructions for the preparation and cooking of a variety of vegetables including artichoke beetroot cabbage celery and more.Sutton & Sons has been a major producer of flower and vegetable seeds since the nineteenth century. Sutton & Sons has played a significant role in supporting the British agricultural industry during the First World War with Suttons' staff being deemed indispensable enough so as to be disqualified from National Service by the Board of Agriculture. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally generally smart with some minor handling marks. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities. Evidence of damp staining particularly to rear board. Cockling to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Some damp staining to the fore edge of the final leaves stained pink by the red pigment of the cloth. Otherwise bright clean pages with slight age toning and the odd spot throughout heavier to the first and last few leaves. Scattered spotting to the half-title page. "Amos Sutton 1802 in Sevenoaks in Kent - 17 August 1854 in Cuttack Odisha was an English General Baptist missionary to Odisha India and hymn writer. He published the first English grammar of the Odia language 1831 a History 1839 and Geography 1840 then the first dictionary of Odia 1841-1843 as well as a translation of the Bible 1842-1845. He also composed a hymn to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne": "Hail sweetest dearest tie that binds" and wrote a 'History of the mission to Orissa: the site of the temple of Juggernaut' 1835." Wikipedia.
