With 11 silver gelatin photos tipped-in sized 9 x 7 in. 1 w/ identifying text w/in negative photographic reproduction of TLS sent to the unit. Gray softcovers with 7 x 5 in. silver gelatin photo mounted front cover white manuscript title lettering punch sewn w/ red silk braid at gutter margin minor chipping to gutter margin front cover partially loose minor chipping to corners still VG- exemplar. A very rare souvenir album documenting one of the continuous nighttime anti-aircraft drills executed in conjunction with the 5th Army Air Force Group in order to better train for possible enemy nighttime aerial assaults on Hawaii between the Wars. These not only offered the 5th Group pilots night flying training but also sharpened and honed the skills of the CAC groups in the 64th Artillery coordinating targeting and their searchlights hunting for possible enemy aircraft. The photos depict the entire Battery C personnel weaponry and several of night firing in conjunction with the searchlights. 18803796<p><b>Scarce Chart of Oahu: Pearl Harbor to Diamond Head</b></p><p>This is a wonderfully detailed chart of the Pearl Harbor/Honolulu area. It names Diamond Head Waikiki Honolulu with street grid shown and Pearl Lochs later Pearl Harbor and locates numerous landmarks: school windmill leper asylum prison and several areas with heavy surf and breakers. </p><p>The chart appears to be directly derived from a larger separately issued chart of the same title that covered a somewhat larger area Hydrographic Office Chart no. 867. The larger chart was first issued in 1880 and updated at least through 1901. While a very short segment of Oahu R.R. is shown just west of Honolulu on the present chart the much longer stretch of the railway that looped around the northern portion of Pearl Lochs is not shown here as it is on the 1899 edition of the larger map. Since the main portion of the Oahu Railway was completed in late 1889 it suggests that the present map was completed prior to that date. We have been unable to determine the exact publication source of the map. In any case the chart as well as its larger relative is very uncommon; neither version is represented on OCLC. <br /></p><p><b>Condition: </b>Original fold lines. Repair of 1 ½" tear at binding edge. Although misdated by some cataloguers due to the introduction of DC-3’s in 1941 by Hawaiian Airlines the population statistics for the fold-out pictorial map match those issued in 1950 with Territorial and Federal Census.
