Paris 30 Septembre 1893 10 x 19.50 cm trois pages et demie sur un bifeuillet une enveloppe Autograph letter signed by Jean Lorrain 47 lines written in black ink on a double sheet addressed to the café-concert singer Yvette Guilbert. Fold marks inherent to the envelope enclosure envelope included. Jean Lorrain is recovering with difficulty and very slowly from his operation: ""Not yet healed! All the misfortunes all the complications all the relapses. Operated on June 30th fifty-eight days of filth anguish and suffering and two dressings per day."" and feels aged by this harsh physical ordeal: ""Vous me retrouverez avec des cheveux blancs et plus mince que vô."" His convalescence will take him outside Paris: ""Je pars demain pour Plombières et j'y resterai un mois. Je n'assisterai donc pas à vos débuts de septembre."" and he worries about his author's rights for ""Fleur de berge"" a song for which he wrote the lyrics and which Yvette Guilbert performs and for which she composed the music: ""Fleur de Berge a été chantée plus de mille fois par tous et partout et je n'ai jamais jamais touché un sou ! Avouez que c'est peu je voudrais pourtant qu'elle me rapporte de quoi vous envoyer une fleur. Est-ce que pour Morphinée et celles que je compte vous faire ce sera toujours peau de balle comme ça."" The writer completely foreign to and lost in these legal intricacies asks the singer for advice: ""Vous devez être très au courant vous. Ecrivez-moi un peu comment on fait comment vous faites. Consultez au besoin votre imprimeur éditeur."" Fine autograph letter from a dandy writer confronted with the mysteries of material and pecuniary considerations. S. n. unknown

Three volumes in one being two volumes complete of 'Le Roman Comique' and one volume complete of 'Histoire des Amours de Henry IV'.In French.'Le Roman Comique' follows the adventures of a group of strolling players. It's a humorous tale dramatising the misadventures of the characters told through four interpolated tales. Written by Paul Scarron an author who was the first husband of Francoise d'Aubigne who later became Madame de Maintenon and secretly married King Louis XIV of France.'Histoire des Amours de Henry IV' is a fictionalised account of the love life of Henry IV of France. The author Louise Marguerite of Lorraine was a cousin by marriage of the King and was one of his lovers.With an engraved title to 'Le Roman Comique' Volume I. Register runs as: 4 A-L12 M8 2-3 A-K12 L9 A-G12 H11.'Le Roman Comique' Volume II is bound without leaf 1. In a full vellum binding. Externally generally smart with light marks and a little age-toning as is usual with a vellum binding. Light bumping to the extremities. Ink to the spine. Hinges are starting but firm. Très bon exemplaire.

La "Procession de la Ligue" et la "Singerie des Etats de la Ligue" sont de grandes et très belles planches dépliantes ; le charlatan lorrain, le charlatan espagnol et le seigneur Agnoste sont 3 vignettes dans le texte ; il y a encore une planche gravée hors texte montrant le cadavre éviscéré, et suspendu par les pattes postérieures, de l'Asne Ligueur ; et, dans le Supplément, une planche reproduisant des médailles. Bon exemplaire. Toutes les planches sont en bon état.
