Esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima ed unica rara edizione, di questo importante lavoro del noto artista originario di San Severino Marche, Cesare Giris (San Severino Marche 1877 – Roma 1941). L’opera è una raccolta di tavole satiriche di propaganda antigermanica, prodotte da Giris tra il 1915 ed il 1916. Proveniente da una famiglia della piccola borghesia della Provincia di Macerata, Cesare Giris studiò l’arte pittorica all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma (IT) dove imparò l’arte del disegno del nudo, la scultura. Ricevute due borse di studio potè iscriversi alla prestigiosa Accademia di San Luca, dove si specializzò in architettura. Coinvolto dall’architetto Giuseppe Sacconi alla realizzazione del Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II, negli stessi mesi inizia a collaborare alla rivista satirica italiana “Fantasio”. Qui conosce Bontempelli del quale diventa buon amico. Continua a coltivare in modo particolare la scultura realizzando il celebre busto mortuario di Umberto I ed un servizio d’argento appositamente commissionatogli dalla Regina Margehrita. A soli 24 anni, sembra disgustato dal clima politico reazionario italiano, decide di lasciare Roma per recarsi a Parigi. Qui a partire dal 1903 quando la rivista satirica “L’Assiette au beurre” gli commisione una serie di tavole dedicata al Papa ed alla laicità della società, collabora con diverse riviste, raggiungendo in breve tempo una fama per le sue caricature vive e sprezzanti. Negli anni parigini, Cesare frequenta Montmatre ed il Quartiere Latino dove incontra e conosce diversi artisti italiani come Leopoldo Fregoli. Stringe amicizia anche con diversi artisti francesi fra i quali Georges Rouault. Nel 1910 espone al celebre “Salon des Indépendants” e ritorna in Italia dove partecipa all’“Esposizione umoristica internazionale” tenutasi al Castello di Rivoli. Nel 1915, allo scoppio del primo conflitto mondiale viene richiamato in patria, ma viene presto riformato. Decide di partecipare allo sforzo bellico italiano sfruttando la sua arte e compone quello che viene considerato il suo capolavoro “Pagine di Sangue” nel quale, 17 dipinti espressionisti, raffiguranti l’orrore e la tragedia delle trincee si alternano ad una graffiante critica del desiderio espansionistico germanico. Stampato dalla Libreria Editrice Mantegazza con la collaborazione delle Officine Istituto Italino d’Arti Grafiche di Bergamo, con testo in italiano e francese, nonostante la bassissima tiratura, l’opera ebbe un’enorme apprezzamento nazionale ed internazionale tanto che diverse testate estere ne scrissero. In 2° (32x22 cm); (24), 440, (90) pp. Bella legatura settecentesca in mezza pelle con titolo e ricchi fregi in oro al dorso. Frontespizio in rosso e nero. Tagli gialli. Stemma al frontespizio con un'aquila bicipite con una corona tra le due teste, al centro in uno stemma le iniziali PB intrecciate simmetricamente. Iniziali dall’antico proprietario al margine basso del dorso che identifica l’esemplare come appartenuto a Monsignor Giuseppe Zacchia che fu uditore della Sacra Rota e governatore di Roma intorno al 1840, appartenente alla nobile famiglia dei Marchesi Zacchia fu un personaggio che ebbe anche un importante ruolo nella vita culturale del territorio ascolano nella prima metà del XIX° secolo. Zacchia fu anche delegato della Provincia di Campagna e Marittima, delegato di Viterbo. Zacchia fu una delle figure più influenti del vaticano nei turbolenti anni dei moti carbonari e rivoluzionari della prima metà del XIX° secolo. Nel 1826 fu inviato nel Frusinate a dirigere le operazioni di Polizia dopo che era divenuto celebre per aver respinto militarmente un assalto dei carbonari a Ripatransone. Qui riuscì a scoprire i capi settari facendoli condannare a pene detentive ed all’esilio, facendo redigere un elenco "degli individui ,che appartengono alla Setta dei Carbonari ,dei sospetti per le loro idee politiche nelle province di Marittima e Campagna Nicola”. Non comune edizione, in bella legatura ed in ottime condizioni di conservazione di questo testo di diritto dall’avvocato e giureconsulto pistoiese, Pietro Pacione (a volte riportato anche come Pacioni). Questo trattato legale, composto nel seicento, ebbe un notevole successo e diverse riedizioni, tutte abbastanza rare. Pietro Pacione, originario di Cutigliano in provincia di Pistoia, era figlio di Francesco Pacioni e fratello minore di Giuliano Pacioni, visse la maggior parte della sua vita a Roma dove esercitò con notevole successo la professione di avvocato. In età matura, per le sue grandi doti e conoscenze, venne invitato dai Principi di Toscana, ad occupare la carica di Auditore presso la Rota toscana. Tale era la sua fama che papa Innocenzo XI che era solito servirsi dei sui scritti, gli offrì il vescovato di Nocera che però Pietro ricusò.
