Some light foxing and age-tanning on text edges and endpapers and it appears frontispiece page has been trimmed a fraction of an inch o/w boards and text are complete clean and unmarked. He was the organist and choirmaster of multiple New Jersey churches including the First Presbyterian Church of Morristown and was a member of the American Guild of Organists the Manuscript Society of New York and the MacDowell Club New York Times. Benét collaborated with Douglas Moore to make this folk opera in 1938 Benét then turned the story into a screenplay with Dan Tothero which was made into a film in 1941 titled All That Money Can Buy directed by William Dieterle and starring Edward Arnold Walter Huston and James Craig. Pages have some wear and soiling. The music was in Tempo di valse. This includes the timeless lyrics of "a fragrance is dancing all over the room A scent of perfume like flowers in bloom." Jimmy Berg was born in 1909 and died in 1988. He was an Austrian refugee which may be a source of his connection with Baron Walter Langer von Langendorff of Evyan Perfumes Inc. Fred Fassler may be most famous for his music for Me And My Dachshund. This was originally written in German so he may also have been a refugee with connections to Evyan Perfumes or its owners. Evyan is an old Perfume house that was founded by Baron Walter Langer von Langendorff an Austrian born Chemist. The New York based fragrance house launched its first perfume White Shoulders in 1945. This Waltz was apparently commissioned by Evyan Perfumes in connection with The Great Lady Ball of 1961 that Baron and Baroness Walter Langer von Langendorff sponsored. Evyan Perfumes, Inc unknown
18451When the U.S. Navy Band was created by Act of Congress in 1925 this lieutenant was named its first leader; under his tutelage it played for many historic occasions such as Charles Lindbergh's return in 1927 from his trans-Atlantic flight and Admiral Richard E. Byrd's return in 1929 from his South Pole Flight; he founded the Navy School of Music in 1935 to help supply qualified musicians to the band. "Lieut Chas Beuter U.S.N / Leader U.S. Navy Band / Wash. D.C. / Regards" in bold blue fountain pen on a pale yellow 5½" X 4½" slip dated at bottom October 1929 in another hand. Very good. A small newspaper portrait of Beuter is affixed to the lower left portion not affecting writing. Interesting and unusual. This was signed at a Chautauqua meeting where Beuter gave a lecture or performance. unknown

For voice and piano. Plate imprint "M.W. & Sons 15332." Contains short samples of a number of songs including "Estellita" and "Whispering Willows." Eileen was a romantic comic opera in three acts loosely based on the 1835 novel Rory O'More which was written by Victor Herbert's grandfather Samuel Lover. The show got to tour for only three months before a fire destroyed the sets. OCLC locates only seven holdings of this piece and it appears to be equally uncommon in the trade. Exceptionally large and bold "Preston Sawyer / In remembrance / Sophie Braslau" in black fountain pen on a pristine pale blue 6" X 3 3/4" autograph album leaf n.p. n.y. Near fine. A handsome example of this uncommon signature; Braslau died at age 43. This signature was acquired by noted collector Preston Sawyer 1899-1968 California journalist and historical writer in San Francisco in 1930. unknown

Friedrich Hofmeoster Leipzig ; OCLC: 175109122 ; This distinctly German songbook was published by the physician Hans Breuer who in 1904 as a medical student influenced by the then-popular Wandervogel movement began wandering the countryside in his free time gathering folk songs. By 1908 he had published the first set of these in Darmstadt as Der Zupfgeigenhansl or "The Pick-Fiddle John". The publishing history of Der Zupfgeigenhansl is extremely convoluted but in later editions the collection usually contains about 260 songs and is divided into 16 themes: Parting -- Minnedienst or Chivalry -- Love Plaints -- Ballads -- Sacred Songs -- Evensongs -- Joy -- Summer -- Journeying SOngs -- Sea Songs -- Parlor Songs -- Soldier's Songs -- Festive Songs -- Rural Songs -- Dance -- Rounds. A number of the songs in these later editions were gathered from song collecting i n the field others were collected from older published sources but the main source was the songbooks published by Böhme as well as works by Herder Zuccalmaglio's German Folksongs and some from Das Knaben Wunderhorn by Brentano and Arnim plus t he Deutschen Liederhort by Erk and Böhme.
