Noted as copy No. 76 on the title page holograph ink the title page.<br/><br/>Though it initially drew criticism from New York audiences in 1975 for its Brechtian style and cynical subversive take on the nature of American celebrity the play soon became a wildly popular runaway hit. The original run went for 936 performances before it closed on August 27 1977 followed by a 1996 revival and a 2002 Oscar-winning film. <br/><br/>Set in Chicago. <br/><br/>Blue titled Studio Duplicating Service wrappers. Oblong 8vo. 145 x 2 70 mm. 5 ¾ x 10 ½ inches. 10 2 105 3 pp. Contemporary leather spine over paper covered boards; spine and boards rubbed with a 2 x 2-inch circle of paper missing from lower board; paper stock aged brown and lightly foxed small piece missing from title-page not affecting text. This copy with the repeated inscription which reads "Henry Landis his book bought in Harrisburg January 20th 1818." With faults a very good copy of a scarce book. First edition reprinted in Harrisburg in 1822. John Wyeth was a Harrisburg printer who produced music and voice books for ministers and church groups during the first quarter of the 19th century. He was the first printer to use shape-note type in his books for the German religious community. In addition to printing for Rev. Isaac Gerhart he printed music books for James Doll and Johannes Rothbaust. Rev. Isaac Gerhart was a Reformed Minister of the Lykens Valley in Dauphin County Pennsylvania. "In addition to preaching administering the sacraments and conducting catechetical instructions Rev. Gerhart set about to improve church worship. He found a 'great defect' in the singing in those early churches. Since he had musical knowledge and talent he prepared a music book called Church Harmonia." This two-night four-show Fillmore engagement produced what are often considered some of the best shows of the band's career. Though we've been unable to determine the pho- tographer they are of clear professional caliber and bear a certain resemblance to the work of legendary rock-and-roll photographer Elliott Landy. Annie was the wife of Samuel Milton Call 1847-1924 and later Reverend Henry Clay Sprinkle 1868-1955. Bound volume containing 28 music scores for piano. Illustrated title-pages done with ornamentation or printed in lithography 9 of which 4 are color. Volume is worn. Good. Unique collection of 28 American music scores for piano dating from 1848-71 including specimens printed in New York Boston Chicago Cincinnati St. Louis Milwaukee Cleveland Nashville and Louisville. This group features nine lithographs by such firms as Ehrgott. Forbriger & Co. Lithographers Cincinnati 4; Ehrgott & Krebs Lithographers ; Color lithography by Sarony & Co. New York; Lithographed title by E.H. Pigott Forbriger & Co. Cincinnati. This collection was bound together for Annie Van Eaton whose name is featured on the cover. Her music teacher Lorenz Kussner of Terre Haute Indiana clearly had experience with the pieces selected. PROVENANCE: Lorenz Kussner Pianos & Music Terre Haute Indiana. Kussner was a dealer in musical merchandise born in Hasse-Darmstadt Germany in 1836. In 1852 he immigrated to the Unites States settling in New York briefly before relocating to Cincinnati. While in Dayton Ohio he apprenticed to a piano manufacturer. After four years he moved again to Crawfordsville Indiana and the Greencastle IN teaching music. In 1864 he arrived in Terre Haute and opened his retail music store. After a year the building burned down. In August 1857 he married Emilie Weinhardt also a native of Germany. They had a daughter Amalia who became a well-known miniaturist artist. See: Hiram Williams Beckwith History of Vigo and Parke Counties Together with Historic Notes on the Wabash Valley . . . Chicago 1880 pp. 298-9. It seems likely that Lorenz Kussner either taught Annie or employed her while at Terre Haute. Inventory available on request. Uniformly near fine to fine overall. <br/><br/>Founded by Colin Faver and Kevin Millins Final Solution was arguably the most important promoter in the UK during the postpunk years. With their impecable eye for talent Joy Division New Order Echo & the Bunnyman Throbbling Gristle et al and their instantly-recognizable flyers Final Solution produced many of the best shows in and around London especially for shows at London's legendary gay nightclub Heaven. And the flyers such as though included here were in no small part key to this success. With their distinctive and colorful designs these uncredited flyers both embody the aesthetics of the New Romantics which the "Heaven sound" helped define while retaining the lean aethetic of postpunk. Included here are five flyers for shows at Heaven Thompson Twins Flock of Seagulls among others as well as one for a show at Assembly Hall Bauhaus all from 1981. Final Solution unknown books
