She is also wearing spiked heels a rather unusual style of footwear for a preteen in 1933. Sufficiently attractive ALICE has further emphasized her charms with the neat application of rouge and a bit of lipstick! Probably this drawing comports with the late Lewis Carroll's vision of the young ALICE in his mind's eye.The mushroom at her feet is about as phallic as it gets on sheet music and certainly the Mad Hatter and March Hare seem to be engaged in heated reparte. From the expression on the face of the Hatter who seems to have been drinking something stronger than tea one can only wonder abou. 1st Edition. A virtuoso he was as comfortable playing classical music as he was playing the boogie-woogie. A composer and conductor as well as a musician he often conducted from the piano. A dashing figure he became a film star in the 1940's playing music for and appearing in MGM musicals including Anchors Aweigh. An amateur boxer motorcyclist and pilot Iturbi best summed up his philosophy of life with this statement: "Life is a meal and music is the roast beef. But who can live on only roast beef You must have your brandy and dessert and cigar. And so I must have my boxing and my airplane and my motorcycle." 1971167739Beverly Hills CA: United Artists 1971. Vintage reference photograph from the 1971 "surrealist documentary" rock film showing Frank Zappa.

In 1970 Zappa completely re-formed the Mothers of Invention to include drummer Aynsley Dunber jazz keyboardist George Duke and three members of The Turtles. Zappa began to write a film for the new lineup and recorded "Chunga's Revenge" 1970 with them as a "preview." Subsequently Zappa met conductor Zubin Mehta and worked with him to produce a concert in May 1970 wherein the Los Angeles Philharmonic was augmented by the Mothers or vice versa as you like and referred to this as "the second preview."

The film itself shot in a week at Pinewood Studios outside London was a tripped-out documentary about life as a musician on the road and Zappa characteristically chose an eclectic group of celebrities to join the proceedings including Theodore Bikel Ringo Starr and Keith Moon. The resulting soundtrack is a matter of debate among Zappa enthusiasts but is notable for its orchestral finale "Strictly Genteel" a touchstone for the variety of classical music experimentations Zappa would subsequently pursue.

8 x 10 inches.
