ill., ril. "Quando un fenomeno fisico è inaspettato e senza conosciuti precedenti, essendo incomprensibile, si dice "dato a caso". Ma, essendo certi che ogni fenomeno in atto discende dai suoi anteriori, si è certi che ogni fenomeno avviene per necessaria successione delle sue cause, anche se non è necessaria la conoscenza delle sue cause. Ogni fenomeno è determinato per rigorosa necessità non accessibile interamente alla nostra razionalità. Gli anteriori fenomeni sconosciuti di un fenomeno attuale non possono essere creduti dati a caso solamente perché sconosciuti, come sostiene la fisica dei quantisti". Questo l'incipit della conferenza di Donizetti che prosegue con tensione etica e concettuale, con il nitore figurativo che contraddistingue la sua arte. Una intensità di concetti sostenuti da Cartesio («penso dunque sono», ma anche «sono: dunque penso»), dai fisici Gerbach e Bohr («Anche se due fotoni si trovassero su due galassie diverse, continuerebbero ad essere un unico ente»). Il che insegna che l'universo delle forme è retto da una sola finalità, come i componenti formali di un'opera d'arte. Non invano Donizetti invoca Leonardo il quale non ha fatto distinzione fra arte e scienza. L'arte è scienza vitale.
