br.

"The world of Music would not be complete without Ghazals. The world of Ghazals would not be complete without Jagjit Singh. Jagjit Singh arrived on the scene and has kept the ghazal flying high untill today. His contribution becomes all the more significant because at a time when melody was doing away from our film music his compositions and singing style gave us renewed hope. Even more so the sway of Hindi cinema and its situational songs was so strong that the new arena of non-film music created by him brought a complete freshness to the music scene. There is absolutely no doubt that Jagjit Singh with his unique composing and singing style is the torchbearer of the survival of ghazals in India." br.

Fine English Paperback. Pbo. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). 334 p. Ills. In Turkish. Turkish Edition of Racy's 'Making music in the Arab world. The Culture and artistry of Tarab'. Visual and Performing Arts of the Middle East (AUC Press, 1998), historian and ethnomusicologist Sherifa Zuhur has once again commissioned and edited authoritative essays from noteworthy scholars from around the globe that explore the visual and performing arts in the Middle East. What differentiates this volume from its predecessor is its investigation of theater, from the early modern period to the contemporary. Topics include race and national identity in Egyptian theater, early writing in the Arab theater in North America, Persian-language theater from its origins through the twentieth century, Palestinian nationalist theater, and a survey of the work of noted Egyptian playwright Yusuf Idris. Other aspects of the arts are not neglected, of course, as further avenues of dance, music, and the visual arts are explored. Marked by interesting and fresh perspectives, Colors of Enchantment is another vital contribution to scholarship on the arts of the Middle East. Very Good Turkish Paperback. Folio. (33 x 24,5 cm). In Turkish. 12 p. [SHEET MUSIC] Inci'nin kitabi: Piano için 7 parça, Op. 10. Turkish composer Adnan Saygun composed this set of children's pieces in 1934. The paper provides information about the developments in the field of music in the early years of the Republic of Turkey, first generation composers, called "The Turkish Five", including Ahmed Adnan Saygun. The score includes a page of commentary about the composer and work. Ahmet Adnan Saygun was a Turkish composer, musicologist and writer on music. One of a group of composers known as the Turkish Five who pioneered western classical music in Turkey, his works show a mastery of Western musical practice, while also incorporating traditional Turkish folk songs and culture. When alluding to folk elements he tends to spotlight one note of the scale and weave a melody around it, based on a Turkish mode. His extensive output includes five symphonies, five operas, two piano concertos, concertos for violin, viola and cello, and a wide range of chamber and choral works. The Times called him "the grand old man of Turkish music, who was to his country what Jean Sibelius is to Finland, what Manuel de Falla is to Spain, and what Béla Bartók is to Hungary". Saygun was growing up in Turkey he witnessed radical changes in his country's politics and culture as the reforms of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk had replaced the Ottoman Empire -which had ruled for nearly 600 years- with a new secular republic based on Western models and traditions. As Atatürk had created a new cultural identity for his people and newly founded nation, Saygun found his role in developing what Atatürk had begun. It's a symphonic arrangement.
