Volumes one and two of three volumes of the third revised and enlarged edition of this work in half calf bindings. Library stamps to the title pages of both volumes. This is Dr J. Chr. Gottlob Schumann's study of Dr H. Gräfe's work on educational reform of German elementary schools with a history of the elementary school. It was intended as a handbook for teachers and school supervisors. Heinrich Gräfe or Graefe 1802-1868 was a headteacher and a professor of the science of education. After reorganizing the schools of Jena he devoted himself to educational reform. He also wrote many textbooks and papers on educational subjects. In half calf bindings. Externally sound though rubbed to the spine and extremities with a loss to the backstrip to Vol I. Front hinges of both volumes are splitting but are holding firm. Internally firmly bound.
