First Edition, dedication within wood-engraved rural 'wreath', 2 decorative wood-engraved head-pieces, diagrams in the text, [4], [v]-viii, 137, [1] pp., contemporary calf, double gilt fillet and repeated flower-tool borders on sides, rebacked, spine gilt in compartments, morocco label with gilt lettering, marbled endpapers, with the bookplate of Esther Acklom, a nice copy. Esther Acklom married Viscount Althorpe, afterwards 3rd Earl Spencer. The romance of Althorp's life was his devotion to his wife. Esther Acklom of Wiseton Hall, North Nottinghamshire, was a stout and somewhat plain lady of considerable intelligence, who is said to have fallen in love with him when she was twenty-two and he ten years older, and to have made the fact so plain to him that, although he had not intended to marry, he proposed to her. They were married on 14 April 1814, and resided on her estate of Wiseton, consisting of some two thousand acres. While she lived he was devoted to her; and when she died in 1818 after the birth of a stillborn child, he was inconsolable, and from the time of her death he always wore black, then the evening dress only of clergymen and persons in mourning. He left no issue, and was succeeded by his brother Frederick, fourth earl Spencer. **** Fry was from the well-known family of Bristol carriage-builders and supplied useful detail on the construction of carriages, load-bearing, and weight versus load. (mm. 255x180), cartoncino rustico coevo (con aloni, dorso e risg. rifatti), pp. 112, frontespizio in rosso e nero con vignetta inc. in rame raffigurante un uomo a cavallo; ornato da una testata alle armi della Contessa Amalia Mniszech (Marescialla della Corte di Polonia) cui è dedicata l’opera, e da una grande e bella iniziale figurata, pure inc. su rame. "Edizione originale" di questo studio sugli effetti benefici dell’equitazione per la salute umana. “Giuseppe Benvenuti (1723-1810) per circa 30 anni esercitò la professione di medico nei celebri Bagni di Lucca. In queste ‘riflessioni’ attinge largamente agli scritti di Sydenham, Baglivi, Boerhaave, ecc., dissertando degli effetti dell’equitazione sulla circolazione sanguigna, dell’elasticità delle fibre muscolari e dei vasi arteriosi e linfatici. L’equitazione è raccomandata per la sua azione di stimolo sull’attività degli ‘spiriti animali’, sulla funzione epatica, la digestione, la circolazione linfatica e - quasi panacea universale - come rimedio contro l’arteriosclerosi, l’idropisia, l’apoplessia, l’isteria e varie altre malattie. Rarissimo e celebre opuscolo del 1776 sul modo di proteggere gli edifici dai fulmini. Di Autore anonimo ma attribuito dal Melzi (v. 2 p. 155) all'astronomo e meteorologo Giuseppe Toaldo (1719-1797). I dati tipografici presenti nell'ultima carta. Toaldo fu sostenitore delle teorie di Benjamin Franklin e fece installare dei parafulmini sulla cattedrale di san Marco a Venezia e sulle navi della marina veneziana. Da pag. 17 dell'opuscolo in poi l'autore descrive il primo parafulmine che venne impiantato a Milano sul Pubblico Ardivio. Questa novità fece molto parlare la Milano di allora e scrivere anche i poeti vernacoli del tempo: "Per via di certa macchena insci fada. Missa in guardia a l'archivi e ai so scricciur. La i fulmen han de grazia a volta strada (De Castro. Milano e la Rep. Cis. Milano 1789 pag. 12). !Chi s'è trovaa un ordegn c'ha del divin. in cas che vegna el fulmen d0obbligal. A borlà giò in qui pezz ch'in li visin. Ma è sta ditt che l'ordegn boegna slengall. Che el fulmen no el bev acqua ma del vin. E fa che el vaga in l'ostaria del gall. (Vol. IX Coll. Cherubini pag. 54). In ottime condizioni e completo. Copertina in carta decorata coeva rilegata all'interno di una copertina cartonata novecentesca in ottime condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in ottime condizioni. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con rare fioriture. Qualche segno manoscritto alla coperta originale. In 8. Dim. 18,5x13 cm. Pp. 22. Very scarce and famous pamphlet of 1776 abotu the way to protect buildings from lighting bolts. Of anonymous author but attributed by Melzi (v. 2 p. 155) to the astronomer and meterologist Giuseppe Toaldo (1719-1797). Typographycal data in the last page. Toaldo agreed with the theories of Benjamin Franklin and installed some lightning rod in the cathedral of San Marco in Venice and in Venetian merchant ships From pag. 17 of this pamphlet the author describes the first lighting rod installed in Milan. In very good conditions and complete Decorated paper cover bound inside a 20th century carton cover in very good conditions slightly worn in thee edges and spine. Binding in very good conditions. Pages in good conditions with occasional foxings. Some handwritten sign in the original cover. In 8. Dim. 18,5x13 cm. Pp. 22.

Si aggiudicò il premio l’importante “Memoria” del Dr. Luigi Peregrini che prende in considerazione tutti gli aspetti della produzione del formaggio in Lombardia, indicando gli elementi che concorrono ad ottenere un prodotto eccellente, i metodi di fabbricazione, ecc.
