Il Porzio, che aveva avuto occasione di curare a Vienna molti soldati dell’esercito di Leopoldo I, che aveva combattuto contro i Turchi, ne trasse interessanti osservazioni intorno a provvedimenti opportuni per evitare lo scoppio di epidemie negli eserciti.. In quest’opera, essenzialmente ippocratica per la sua concezione e per la forma in cui è composta, noi troviamo una serie di osservazioni intorno alla dissenteria, al tifo petecchiale, alle febbri intermittenti e ad altre malattie che sogliono manifestarsi negli eserciti, che rivelano tanta profondità di cognizioni da assicurare al medico napoletano un posto onorevole nella storia dell’igiene”.
