In breve, si tratta di indagare la figura (mediatica) dello zombie come metafora del campo discorsivo dei media. In particolare, lo scopo del libro è quello di studiare come tale metafora riguardi tutta una serie di politiche che si insinuano nelle diverse declinazioni del campo dei media: le politiche neoliberiste relative alla professionalità e alle pratiche di chi lavora nei media (e quindi legate agli aspetti produttivi); le politiche applicate allo stesso "corpo politico", individuabili soprattutto nelle modalità e nelle logiche con cui la leadership politica viene rappresentata nella stampa e in televisione; infine, le politiche implicate surrettiziamente nel consumo dei media, dove quest'ultimo è stato ed è tradizionalmente letto come un'acritica adesione ai messaggi dei mezzi di comunicazione, senza possibilità di risposta o di feedback. Ma anche, in ultimo, le politiche "resistenti" da parte dei pubblici, che con le loro pratiche utilizzano i testi dei media e li ricodificano, impegnandosi in azioni dimostrative collettive.
